Picture this: it's October 31, 1987, and a group of kids, split into neighborhood gangs, decided the best way to celebrate Halloween was to compete for the title of Master of Mischief. The plan was simple: pull some pranks, cause a little harmless vandalism, and prove who truly owns the streets. But, just like in every classic horror movie, things went south very quickly. What started as a brave competition between masked kids ended in the worst possible way: they discovered that the Boogeyman isn't just a legend used to scare disobedient children into behaving—he is real, he is hungry, and he is lurking in the shadows! In this game, you lead one of these kid gangs. To win, you'll need to strategically use your Mischief cards to compete for Neighbor cards, which are your ticket to glory (and points). But don't get too comfortable: while you want to be the best, the danger is shared. The game features a tense semi-cooperative element where everyone must stay sharp, because the ultimate goal is quite urgent: you must be the first to successfully trap the Boogeyman himself before he finishes his grim business! Blending hand management, fast-paced auctions, and a dash of dice-rolling luck, Boogeyman is a dynamic experience that ramps up the tension as the night progresses. It is perfect for players who enjoy quick games with strong themes that can balance fierce competition between friends with the shared necessity of dealing with a common threat. Are you ready to face the legend, or will you stay hiding under the covers? ## How to Play Game Objective In Boogeyman, each player leads a group of children performing pranks to compete for the title of Prank Masters. The main objective is to be the first to trap the Boogeyman, a monster that feeds on disobedient children. To do this, players use Prank cards to compete for Neighbor cards, which are worth points. Setup Deal a set of Prank cards to each player. The remaining cards are returned to the box. Each player receives 4 Child tokens of their color. Shuffle the Neighbor cards and form a face-down deck in the center of the table. Shuffle the Toy cards and form another face-down deck within everyone's reach. Flip over a Neighbor card from the top and place it next to the deck. The youngest player receives the 1st Player Token. Choose a side of the Trap card (Normal or Hard) and place it face-up in the center of the table. Keep the Boogeyman die within everyone's reach. Game Flow The game is divided into rounds, with turns in a clockwise direction: Buy Toys: Everyone draws a Toy card (limit of 3 in hand). You can only draw again after using one. Play Pranks: Each player chooses one or more Prank cards and places them face-down. All are revealed simultaneously. Use Toys: Starting with the first player, each player can play one or more Toy cards. Resolve Ties: If there is a tie in Prank values, tied players are eliminated and discard their cards. Claim Neighbor: Whoever has the highest sum of Pranks claims the Neighbor card, but must roll the die as indicated on the card. If the Boogeyman appears on the die, they lose a child and the second-place player gets the card. Pass the Token: The 1st player token passes to the next player in a clockwise direction. Actions and How to Play Neighbor Cards Worth between 5 and 20 points. Indicate how many times to roll the die (1X to 3X). Prank Cards Numbered from 1 (mildest) to 5 (heaviest). Toy Cards Have unique effects (e.g., discard an opponent's card). Can block the Boogeyman with the Block symbol. Sacrifice At the end of the turn, you can discard 3 Toy cards or 2 children to recover all discarded Prank cards. Trapping the Boogeyman Players with enough points can attempt to trap him at the beginning of their turn. They must complete the challenge on the Trap card, rolling the die according to their points. If the Boogeyman appears, they lose a child and fail. Block cards can nullify the effect. End of Game and Scoring The game ends if: A player traps the Boogeyman (victory). The Neighbor card deck runs out without a capture (everyone loses). Scoring: Captured Neighbor cards are summed immediately. Special Modes Hardcore: Lost 4 children? You are eliminated. Survival: Last player alive wins without capturing. Tips for Winning Use Toy cards with Block to protect yourself during critical rolls. Manage your children well: losing all of them paralyzes you. In Normal mode, accumulate points before attempting to trap the Boogeyman to reduce rolls. ## FAQ ### How long does a game last?
