In Capivárias, you and your opponent will compete for control of the waters, with the help of your favorite humans. This is a duel microgame, consisting of just 18 cards, where the goal is to collect as many points as possible as your capybaras float down the river. Each game features a unique river setup: three cards are flipped to form the course, revealing special scoring conditions for each section – like doubling points for all odd cards, you know? On your turn, you choose a capybara card from your hand and place it on your side, at the starting section of the river. But be smart! If two cards from the same capybara group meet, the one with fewer capybaras is pushed downstream, creating a chain reaction that can be both a blessing and a curse. You need to read your opponent's intentions and use the right capionças to secure victory. Capivárias is the second game in the Piquinim Collection, known for its compact and strategic titles. Featuring the capicrias from the Southeast, the capiôxes from the Northeast, and the capitchês from the South, each group has its own identity and can influence the game in different ways. Language dependence is minimal, with little text and easy-to-memorize rules, making it accessible to everyone. Keep an eye out for predators and the river's flow, as every move counts in this fun and strategic capybara duel! ## How to Play Objective of the Game In Capivárias, capybaras and capyfans battle for control of the Capivari River. Your goal is to strategically place your herd in the river segments to accumulate the most points. The first player to win 2 rounds wins the game. Setup Shuffle the cards and create a pile with the river side facing up. Separate the top three cards from the pile and place them horizontally on the table with the river side facing up. This creates the river, where each card represents a river segment. Rotate the cards so the arrows point in the same direction, indicating the river flow direction. The card furthest back in the river flow is the starting segment. Open 4 cards from the pile and place them next to the starting segment, capybara side up. These are the available cards. The player who saw a capybara most recently goes first. Game Flow The game is played over 2 or more rounds. On your turn, you must take one of the available cards and place it in the river following the rules for your specific herd. Turn End: If only 1 capybara card is available at the end of the turn, reveal cards from the pile until 4 cards are available (or until the draw pile is exhausted). Round End: A round ends when only 1 card remains and the pile is empty. The player who took the last card begins the next round. Actions and How to Play Depending on the card type, different rules apply when placing them in the river: Capicrias, Capiôxes, and Capitchês These herds can only enter the river from the starting segment. When you play one, place it on your side of the river to score points for you this round. Pushing Mechanic: Whenever a new card enters a river segment, check if there is another capybara from the same herd there (regardless of the side). If so, the card with the lowest number is pushed to the next river segment following the river flow direction. This can cause a chain reaction. If a card is pushed out of the 3rd segment, it is discarded. At the end of the turn, a maximum of 1 card from each herd can exist in each segment, regardless of side. Special Case: Cards with 1 are the only ones that push cards with 5 from the same herd (but they are pushed by any other card from the same herd). Capionças These special cards can be placed directly on any river segment that does not yet have capionças. Place them below a river card to indicate the segment is affected. Their effects include: Push a capybara here: Choose any capybara in this segment and push it to the next one (may cause chain reactions). Switch sides of one capybara: Choose any capybara from this segment and switch it to the other side. Switch sides of all capybaras: Swap the sides of every capybara in this segment. If one side is empty, the other becomes empty. Expansion Herds/Cards Capiticos: These always follow a guardian capybara from the same herd. If the guardian is on the other side, the capitico forces the guardian to switch sides. Capiticos prevent their guardian from being pushed; instead, the pushing card moves to the next segment, taking the capitico with it. Capiticos add 1 point to their guardian at the end of the round (applied before river modifiers). Capissor: Choose any capitico and its guardian to bring them to the starting segment. This can cause chain reactions. Discard the capissor at the end of the river. It is worth 0 points. Capiolins: These enter the river in the first segment where you do not have capybaras. They are not pushed by Capicrias, Capichês, or Capiôxes. If a capybara next to a capiolin is pushed (same segment and side), the capybara switches sides, scoring points for the opponent. End of Game and Scoring Scoring a Round: When a round ends, calculate your score based on the cards on your side of the river. The base value is the number on the card, but river modifiers (which can be positive or negative) affect the final total. Winning a Round: The player with the highest total score wins the round. In a tie, both players win the round. Winning the Game: The game ends when someone wins 2 rounds. If there are two ties, play new rounds until one round is no longer tied; the winner of that round wins the game.
