In this expansion, you take on the role of the Fair Folk, a people who live on the fringes of human conflicts. Your mission is to find the kidnapped queen, along with her crown and sword, while the normal battles rage on above. The catch? Ancient fairy laws prevent you from acting directly. You'll have to use your charm and cunning to strike deals and bargains with other players, trading favors and information to uncover the whereabouts of royalty. The gameplay is quite unique: the Fair Folk take smaller turns, interspersed with those of the main factions. You place a 'fairy nest' with an offer on a hex. If a player accepts the offer and you have enough silver cubes coming from your 'fairy tree,' the nest solidifies. In return, other players are forced to reveal clues about the stolen items or the queen's location. If you manage to find the queen, the Fair Folk win! And watch out, a double victory is possible: if one of the main factions reaches the victory score in the same round the Fair Folk rescue the queen, both groups can emerge victorious. It's an expansion that adds a layer of negotiation and mystery, perfect for those who enjoy the theme and want more Harrow County on their table. ## How to Play Objective of the Game In Harrow County: The Fair Folk Expansion, players take on the role of the Fair Folk, a mysterious faction seeking to locate the Sword, Crown, and Queen hidden across the map. The primary goal is to find the Queen, which results in an immediate victory. The Fair Folk can also gain advantages by finding the Sword and Crown, which provide ongoing benefits. The game ends when the Fair Folk locate the Queen, or when other factions achieve their own victory conditions. Preparation (Setup) Shuffle the Objective cards and take 3 into your hand. Shuffle the Fair Folk cards and take 3 into your hand. Place the Fair Folk Faction Board faceup near you and place the Sword/Crown/Queen Token over their matching area on the Faction Board. Put all the Offer Tokens into the bag, then draw 3 out and place each one into a Nest Token. Keep all other Tokens (Arrow, Nests, X) nearby. Have one non-Fair Folk player write a 1, 2, and 3 each on different hexes on the Location Card. The 1 is where the Sword is hiding, the 2 is the Crown, and the 3 is the Queen. Place the card in the standee and align it so the hexes on the Location card match the map. The Fair Folk player can never see the front of this card. Take 1 silver cube and place it on one of the terrain hexes on your Faction Board. Flow of the Game The Fair Folk take their turn before other factions. In a 3-player game, the order is: Fair Folk → Faction 1 → Fair Folk → Faction 2. In a 4-player game, Hester plays last, and the Fair Folk do not get a turn before her. On their turn, the Fair Folk can perform the following actions: Play 1 Nest Accomplish 1 Objective Play cards (before or after placing a Nest) Perform clean-up Actions and How to Play Play 1 Nest Take 1 of your 3 Nest Tokens that has an Offer Token and place it on any hex on the board that has no units or Bonfire. You can place it on hexes with Townsfolk, Buildings, Doll Tokens, or Roots. If you place a Nest on a hex that matches the terrain with a silver cube on your Faction Board, gain a silver cube from the supply. Accomplish 1 Objective To accomplish an Objective, you need to have 4 Nests on hexes matching the Objective card’s requirements. Reveal the Objective card and show the Nests that prove completion. You must find items in this order: Sword, Crown, Queen. After revealing, choose to either place an Arrow Token or take a guess: Place an Arrow Token: Point to a Nest with an Offer Token used in the Objective, remove the Offer Token, and place an Arrow Token on the map’s edge pointing left or right. Take a guess: Point to any hex, and other players will confirm if it contains the item you’re searching for. If incorrect, place an X Token on that hex. If correct, perform the corresponding actions for finding the Sword, Crown, or Queen. Play Cards Before or after playing a Nest, you can play as many Fair Folk cards as you can afford. Discard the number of silver cubes indicated on the card’s top left to play it. Once played, discard the card. Clean-up During clean-up, if you have more than 6 cubes in the Battleground, discard down to 6. Draw until you have 3 Objective cards, 3 Fair Folk cards, and 3 Offer Tokens. If another player has a Unit on a hex with an Offer Token during their clean-up, they take the Offer Token and can spend it in future turns. If the Fair Folk have equal or more cubes than the player who collected the Offer, they can place an Arrow Token and take a guess. End of Game and Scoring The game ends when the Fair Folk find the Queen, resulting in their victory. It’s possible for both the Fair Folk and another faction to win in the same round. If the Fair Folk find the Sword or Crown, they gain ongoing benefits but must still locate the Queen to win. Other factions have their own victory conditions, which may also end the game. Tips for Winning Focus on Objectives: Completing Objectives efficiently is key to narrowing down the locations of the Sword, Crown, and Queen. Manage Silver Cubes: Use silver cubes wisely to play Fair Folk cards and gain advantages during your turn. Strategic Nest Placement: Place Nests on hexes that match your Faction Board’s terrain to gain additional silver cubes. Fair Folk vs. Hester In a 2-player game, the Fair Folk and Hester follow their respective rules. At the start of every turn, draw an FF vs. H Token to determine who takes their turn. If the H Solo / FF Solo Token is revealed, flip it to decide which faction activates the Solo card. Offers collected by Hester can be used in future turns, while Protectors or Family must spend Offers immediately. The Fair Folk win by finding the Queen, while Hester wins by filling her Board with Infected Haints or Tokens from eating Legends.
