It's perfect for families or a relaxed game night with friends! Easy to learn, quick to play Engaging new gameplay elements Beautiful turn-of-the-century European map Great for families and new players May feel familiar to TTR veterans Luck can influence route completion HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ## Description Get ready to embark on an unforgettable railway journey across Europe! In Ticket to Ride: Europe, you'll traverse the continent, connecting iconic cities like Edinburgh, Constantinople, Lisbon, and Moscow, all set against the charm of the turn of the century. Maintaining the elegance and simplicity that made the original Ticket to Ride a phenomenon, this version is super easy to learn – seriously, in about five minutes you'll be placing your little trains on the map! It's the perfect game to bring the family together or challenge that more experienced friend. But don't think it's just a new map, mind you! Ticket to Ride: Europe introduces fresh gameplay elements that add a special flavor to your travels. Tunnels, for example, might require you to pay extra cards to build them, adding a layer of strategy. Ferries, on the other hand, can only be claimed if you have the coveted locomotive cards. And Stations? Oh, they're a lifesaver! They allow you to use an opponent's route segment to connect your own cities, even if it costs you a few points at the end. Additionally, the game comes with larger format cards and charming Train Station pieces, which add an extra touch to the table. The main objective remains the same: collect and play train cards to place your pieces on the board, linking the cities that appear on your Destination Ticket cards. You earn points both for building your routes and for completing these objectives, but be careful: uncompleted objectives can make you lose precious points! In the end, whoever has the highest score is the grand master of European railways. And best of all: it's a complete, standalone game, no need to own the original version to have fun! ## How to Play Objective of the Game All aboard for an epic European adventure! In Ticket to Ride: Europe, you're a railway tycoon, racing across the continent to connect iconic cities and build the most extensive and profitable train network. Your goal is to score the most points by claiming routes, completing secret Destination Tickets, and strategically placing your Train Stations. The player with the highest score at the end of the game earns the title of Europe's premier railway magnate! Preparation (Setup) Let's get those tracks laid! Setting up Ticket to Ride: Europe is quick and easy: Each player chooses a color and takes their corresponding set of 45 Train Cars, 3 Train Stations, and a Scoring Marker. Place your Scoring Marker on the "Start" space of the scoring track around the board. Shuffle the Train cards thoroughly and deal 4 cards to each player. Place the remaining Train card deck face down next to the board. Then, draw 5 cards from the deck and lay them face up in a row beside the deck. Place the European Express Bonus card and the Summary card face up next to the board. Separate the 6 long routes (those with blue backgrounds) from the rest of the Destination Tickets. Shuffle these 6 long routes and deal 1 to each player. Any remaining long routes are returned to the box unseen. Shuffle the regular Destination Tickets and deal 3 to each player. Place the remaining deck face down. Each player must keep at least 2 of their Destination Tickets (including the long route), but can choose to keep all 4 if they wish. Any returned tickets are placed back in the box unseen. The player who has visited the most European countries gets to go first. Play then proceeds clockwise. The Turn of Play On your turn, you get to perform one and only one of the following four actions. Choose wisely! 1. Draw Train Cards This is how you get the fuel for your railway empire! You can draw 2 Train cards. You have a few options: Take any of the 5 face-up cards. Draw from the top of the face-down deck. Important Locomotive Rules: If you draw a face-up card, immediately replace it with a new card from the deck. You can only draw 1 Locomotive card during a turn. If you pick a face-up Locomotive as your first card, that's your entire turn – you don't draw a second card. If a Locomotive is revealed as a replacement card, or if one is face-up but not picked as your first card, you cannot pick it as your second card. If at any point there are 3 face-up Locomotive cards, all 5 face-up cards are immediately discarded, and 5 new cards are drawn to replace them. Remember, Locomotives are wild cards and can be used as any color when claiming a route, but they are essential for Ferry routes! 2. Claim a Route Time to lay some track! To claim a route: Play a set of Train cards that match the color and quantity of the spaces on the route you want to claim. Discard these cards. Place one of your Train Cars on each space of the route. Move your Scoring Marker forward on the scoring track to record the points for that route's length. You can only claim one route per turn, and you must claim it entirely in a single turn. Special Route Types: Gray Routes: These flexible routes can be claimed using a set of cards of any one color. Double Routes: Some cities have two parallel routes connecting them. In games with 2 or 3 players, only one of these double routes can be used. One player cannot claim both routes. Ferries: To claim a Ferry route, you must play a Locomotive card for each Locomotive symbol shown on the route, in addition to the usual set of colored cards for the remaining spaces. Tunnels: Tunnels are a bit risky! When claiming a Tunnel route, first lay down the required number of cards. Then, reveal the top 3 cards from the Train deck. For each revealed card that matches the color you played (including Locomotives), you must play an *additional* card of that same color (or a Locomotive) to successfully claim the tunnel. If you don't have enough additional matching cards, or choose not to play them, you take all your cards back, and your turn ends. The 3 revealed cards are discarded. If you attempt a tunnel using only Locomotive cards, you only need to play additional Locomotives if they appear among the 3 revealed cards. 3. Draw Destination Tickets Feeling lucky? Draw 3 Destination Tickets from the top of the deck. You must keep at least 1 of them. Any tickets you don't keep go to the bottom of the deck. These tickets are kept secret until the end of the game and are crucial for scoring! Once you keep a ticket, it's yours until the end of the game – no discarding later! 4. Build a Train Station Train Stations are your secret weapon! You can build a Station in any city that doesn't already have one. You can only build one Station per turn, and a maximum of 3 per player for the entire game. Your first Station costs 1 Train card of any color. Your second Station costs 2 Train cards of the same color. Your third Station costs 3 Train cards of the same color. A Station allows you to use one (and only one!) route belonging to another player, into or out of that city, to help you connect the cities on your Destination Tickets. Two players can never build a Station in the same city. If you use a Station for multiple tickets, you must use the same opponent's route for all of them. You don't have to decide which route until final scoring! Game End and Scoring The game is nearing its grand finale when one player's supply of Train Cars dwindles to 2 or less at the end of their turn. When this happens, every player, including the player who triggered the end, gets one final turn. Then, the game ends, and it's time for the big reveal! Here's how final scores are calculated: Destination Tickets: Reveal all your Destination Tickets. The value of successfully completed tickets (where you have a continuous path of your trains between the two cities) is added to your score. The value of incomplete tickets is subtracted from your score. Unplayed Stations: Add 4 points for each of your Train Stations that you did not build. European Express Bonus: The player who has the Longest Continuous Path of routes receives a bonus of 10 points! A single train car cannot be used twice in the same continuous path. Stations and the opponent's routes they provide access to do not count for this bonus. If there's a tie, all tied players receive the bonus. Grand Total: Sum up all these points! The player with the most points wins! In case of a tie: The player who completed the most Destination Tickets wins. If still tied, the player who used the least number of Stations wins. If still tied, the player with the European Express Bonus card wins. Tips for Winning Ready to conquer Europe's railways? Here are a few pointers to get you started: Balance Tickets and Routes: Don't just grab routes randomly! Always keep your secret Destination Tickets in mind. They are a huge source of points, but incomplete tickets are a big penalty. Try to claim routes that help you complete multiple tickets. Watch Your Opponents: Pay attention to where other players are building. Are they heading towards cities on your tickets? Sometimes it's worth claiming a shorter, less valuable route just to block an opponent or secure a critical connection for yourself. Strategic Station Placement: Your Train Stations are incredibly powerful. Don't rush to build them unless absolutely necessary. Save them for those crucial moments when you need to bridge a gap using an opponent's route to complete a high-value Destination Ticket. Remember, they also give you points if unplayed! ## FAQ ### How many players can participate in Ticket to Ride: Europe?
