The region boasts over 3,000 species, including the tiny bee hummingbird and the massive snowy albatross, offering a wealth of strategic variety. The star of the set is the 40 new hummingbird cards, which add a special mechanic: playing one lets a player trigger swift, delicate effects that echo the insects' rapid flight, spicing up hand management. In addition, the expansion brings 111 fresh bird cards, 8 new goal cards and 5 double‑sided goal tiles, expanding scoring avenues. The Automa solo mode has also been updated for balanced solo play. All components feature artwork by Natalia Rojas, Ana Maria Martinez Jaramillo and Martha Clare, preserving the line's elegant aesthetic. You’ll need the base Wingspan game (or the standalone Wingspan Asia for 1‑2 players) to use the new material. The expansion doesn’t raise the learning curve – seasoned players will feel right at home, while newcomers still benefit from familiar hand‑management and open‑draft mechanics. In short, Wingspan: Americas enriches the ornithological universe with exotic species, new scoring goals and a dash of hummingbird speed, all without overcomplicating the experience. ## How to Play Goal of the Game In this Wingspan expansion, you will explore the biodiversity of the Americas, including Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. The goal is to manage your bird reserve to accumulate the highest possible score. A central element of this expansion is the introduction of hummingbirds, which bring a unique gameplay dynamic through a special deck and a dedicated garden board. Setup Setup follows the rules of the base game, with the following additions for the expansion: The Hummingbird Garden Place the hummingbird garden board in the center of the table along with the other shared components. Shuffle the hummingbird deck and place it face down next to the board. Place 1 hummingbird face up in each of the 5 spaces on the garden board. Player Components Place a hummingbird overlay on the left section of your player board. Take a random hummingbird card from the deck and place it in the hummingbird space of your grassland. Place one side of a random hummingbird track next to your board and place 5 hummingbird tokens, one in each space marked START. Gameplay Flow The game follows the normal rules of Wingspan. However, when using your forest, grassland, or wetland habitats, you will perform a hummingbird action at the end of your turn. Hummingbird Actions When finishing an action row (moving your action cube from right to left), you will reach a hummingbird space. If the space is empty, you must ATTRACT a hummingbird. If there is already a hummingbird in the space, you must RETURN the hummingbird. Round End Use the end-of-round powers (if you are playing with the European expansion). Discard any unused nectar. Mark the end-of-round goal. Remove all action cubes. Discard and replace all cards in the bird tray and the garden. If Round 4 has ended, use the end-of-game powers. Otherwise, pass the first player token. Actions and How to Play Hummingbird Actions (Attract or Return) ATTRACT: If the space is empty, choose a hummingbird (the first one face up in the garden or one from the deck) and place it in the space. Gain the benefit indicated in the bottom left corner of the hummingbird card. RETURN: If the space already has a hummingbird, place it in any space in the garden (usually covering another hummingbird). Advance one space on your hummingbird track. You may advance in the column corresponding to the hummingbird you returned OR the hummingbird you covered. Important Rules: If your token lands on a space marked with an extra action symbol, you perform another hummingbird action immediately. You are not allowed to attract the same hummingbird that you returned in the same turn. "Bumping" is not possible: you need an empty space to attract a hummingbird. Nectar The nectar is a type of wild food. It can be used as a substitute for any of the 5 types of food when playing a bird. You can spend 2 regular food tokens to obtain 1 nectar. It can be used to fulfill the requirements of any food (such as in bird abilities or to improve the egg-laying action). Attention: If a bird ability asks for a specific type of food (e.g., seed), you cannot use nectar. End of Game and Scoring The game ends after the completion of Round 4. After the end-of-round steps, the end-of-game powers (yellow) are applied. Scoring At the end, players sum the points from their tokens on the hummingbird track. The scoring values are printed to the right of the track. Additionally, the following must be considered: Hummingbird Points: The scoring value of each of your tokens on the track. End-of-Round Goals: Must be scored according to the rules of each goal. Tie-breaker: The player with the highest number of unused food tokens wins the tie-breaker. Tips for Winning Space Management: Remember that hummingbird spaces can only contain hummingbirds; you cannot play other birds or place eggs/food in them. Make the most of the Track: Try to advance as far as possible on the hummingbird track, as the token value increases as you advance. ## FAQ ### How many players can use the expansion?
