Game Objective

In Eldritch Horror: Lost Knowledge, humanity faces the imminent threat of an Ancient One. To protect the world, intrepid investigators must uncover stories and lost knowledge from ancestral civilizations — such as the Great Race of Yith and the serpent people — that were destroyed over billions of years. The victory condition is the survival of the human race through the discovery of this knowledge to halt the invasion of the Ancient Ones.

Setup

To set up the game using this expansion, follow these steps:

  • Add all Lost Knowledge components to the respective decks and component piles of the Eldritch Horror base game.
  • Unless instructions indicate otherwise, use all expansion components during the game.
  • The components included for setup are:
    • 1 Ancient One Sheet (including the new Ancient One, Yig);
    • 14 Mystery Cards;
    • 148 Encounter Cards (divided between America, Europe, Asia/Australia, Generic Encounters, Other World, Expedition, and Special Encounters);
    • 6 Myth Cards;
    • 8 Artifact Cards;
    • 16 Asset Cards;
    • 24 Condition Cards;
    • 28 Spell Cards;
    • 8 Monster Tokens (1 normal and 7 epic);
    • 6 Health and Sanity Tokens.

Actions and How to Play

Combat and Encounters

During the Encounter Phase, there is a mandatory engagement order: the investigator must encounter each of the non-epic Monsters in their space before facing the Epic Monsters.

Alternative Combat Tests: Some Epic Monsters in this expansion may require proficiency tests different from the usual ones. If there is a different proficiency icon in place of the standard test indicators, players must test the indicated proficiency.

Special Conditions

Lost in Time and Space Condition: This is a special condition that drastically alters the investigator's interaction with the game:

  • Immediate Effects: Upon receiving this Condition, the player removes their Investigator marker from the board, passes the Lead Investigator token to another player (if possible), and discards any Imprisoned Condition.
  • Restrictions: The investigator cannot move, perform actions, occupy spaces on the board, use their passive ability, or spend assets and resources as part of a group.
  • Immunities: They are not affected by Myth Cards or other game effects, except those described in the Lost in Time and Space Condition itself.
  • Interactions: An investigator in this condition cannot receive the Lead Investigator token. If the condition's effect is to "spawn 1 Portal" and there are none in the Portal deck or discard pile, the player chooses a Portal that is already on the board.

Recovery Actions

The Rest action is used to recover Health and Sanity. However, if the investigator has the Poisoned Condition, they do not recover these values through the Rest action, nor through extra effects that occur during that action (such as the Words of Healing Spell or the Healer Asset). Recoveries that do not depend on the Rest action (such as the Private Physician Asset) function normally.

End of Game and Scoring

Refer to the rulebook for details on this section.

Note: In the case of an investigator with the Lost in Time and Space Condition, they win the game if the other investigators win and lose if they lose.

Tips for Winning

  • Pay Attention to Proficiencies: Keep an eye on the test icons of Epic Monsters, as they may require alternative proficiencies to be defeated.
  • Condition Management: Be aware that the Poisoned Condition blocks the recovery of Health and Sanity via the Rest action, making assets like the Private Physician essential.
