How to Play Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island – Companion App Pack #01: Loury Totems

Welcome, fellow castaways! This guide will walk you through the Loury Totems mini-expansion for Robinson Crusoe. Get ready to face new challenges and uncover ancient mysteries!

Game Objective

The Loury Totems mini-expansion introduces a new element to your island survival: **Totems**. These ancient artifacts can be both a blessing and a curse. Your primary objective remains to survive the harsh conditions of the island and achieve the scenario's goals. The specific victory condition will be detailed on your **Scenario sheets**.

Setup

When playing with the Loury Totems mini-expansion, you will use **Event cards** and **Adventure cards** from this pack instead of those from the base game. Important: When using the **Wreckage cards** from the Companion App packs, do not skip the first **Event Phase**. You must resolve the **Event** specified on the **Wreckage card** during the initial round. **Totems** are represented by a specific icon. An **ACTIVE Totem** is one that does not have a destroyed marker on it. A **DESTROYED Totem** is one that has a destroyed marker on it. Various card effects allow you to destroy active **Totems**. Indicate a **Totem** as destroyed by placing a marker on it. When a **Totem** is destroyed, you still resolve the **Totem effects** on the **Scenario sheets**! Consult the manual for details on specific setup instructions for **Wreckage cards**, **Event cards**, and **Adventure cards**.

Game Flow

The game progresses through a series of rounds, each consisting of several phases. The exact order of phases and any specific mechanics related to the Loury Totems will be detailed on your **Scenario sheets**. When using **Wreckage cards** from the Companion App packs, you must resolve the **Event** specified on the **Wreckage card** during the initial round, meaning you do not skip the first **Event Phase**. Consult the manual for details on the specific phases of a round, including any **Event Phase**, **Maintenance Phase**, or global events.

Actions and How to Play

The Loury Totems mini-expansion introduces new elements that may affect your available actions or the outcomes of certain actions.

Totems

**Totems** are a new game element.

Adventure Cards (Examples from Context)

* **ARTIST (087):** You were much too focused mapping your steps and almost ran into a local painting faces on a tree. He seemed almost as shocked as you. * DECIDE: Spend 1 **Wood** OR Destroy 1 **Totem** and shuffle this card into the **Event deck**. * Communication is more than just screaming and scratching... Place a **destroyed marker** on the tile with the **Totem**. Draw another card. * **CIRCLE OF STONES (086):** The interior of the circle exhorted you. You tried to fight it at first, but couldn’t overcome its power and slowly stepped over the boundary and entered the Circle. * Roll the **die**. If you roll a 1, shuffle this card into the **Event deck**. The secrets revealed to you were unspeakable. Draw 3 **Mystery cards**. Draw another card. * **BREATH OF DRAGON (061):** The furious face carved in a nearby pole seems to yawn searing hot steam. Just beyond was a throng of iguanas. * DECIDE: Get 1 **Food** and discard this card OR destroy 1 **Totem** and shuffle this card into the **Event deck**. * The First Player gets a number of **Discovery tokens** equal to the number of **active Totems**. Draw another card. * **OWLS EVERYWHERE (062):** One of the high stone walls, unreachable by you, was covered in images of owls. If you’ve learned anything, you know you can’t trust the owls. * DECIDE: Discard this card OR gain 2 **Discovery tokens** and shuffle this card into the **Event deck**. * -1 **Morale** for each **active Totem**. Draw another card. * **WARNINGS (037):** And you thought the smell was bad... The wind was coming from a different direction than usual. It brought the smell of burning. This had to be bad news. * DECIDE: Discard 1 **Wood** and discard this card OR shuffle this card into the **Event deck**. * If there are no **destroyed Totems**, the First Player is limited to 1 available **action** this round. Draw another card. * **STALKER (036):** Even in the light, you felt the eyes upon you. You swore that, among the darkness, eyes of nearby totems followed your every move. You wanted nothing but to brighten those shadows... * DECIDE: Flip **Item** to its Item side and shuffle this card into the **Event deck** OR discard 1 **Wood** for each **active Totem** and discard this card. * The First Player gets 1 **Discovery token** for each **active Totem**. Draw another card. * **UGA BUGA! (001):** The wild wind sweeps the sound of chanting. * Draw **Island tiles** until you find a tile with a **Totem icon**. Place it on the space to the right of the **Camp** (do not gain any cards or tokens from it). Then reshuffle the stack. * Destroy 1 **Totem**. Gain 1 **Discovery token**. * **NATIVES (002):** The camp was standing in the flames... * Draw 3 **Island tiles** and choose 1 with a **Totem icon**. Place it on any space not adjacent to another **Island tile**, or, if there are no non-adjacent tiles, place it adjacent to any **Island tile**. Then return remaining tiles and reshuffle the stack. * Gain 1 **Discovery token**. * IF POSSIBLE: Move your **Camp** to an adjacent tile without an **active Totem**. Discard this card. * -1 **Morale**. Consult the manual for details on all available actions and how they interact with the new **Totem** mechanics.

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends when a specific trigger condition is met, as outlined on your **Scenario sheets**. This could be achieving a certain objective, surviving a set number of rounds, or succumbing to the island's dangers. The Loury Totems mini-expansion may introduce new scoring criteria or modify existing ones. The presence and state of **Totems** (active or destroyed) can directly impact your final score. Consult the manual for precise details on the end-game trigger, all scoring criteria, and the conditions for victory and defeat.

Tips for Winning

* Pay close attention to the effects of **active Totems**. Some may provide benefits, while others can be detrimental. Prioritize destroying harmful **Totems** if possible. * When faced with **Adventure cards** involving **Totems**, carefully weigh the risks and rewards of each decision. Destroying a **Totem** might be costly in the short term but could prevent future negative effects. * Consult your **Scenario sheets** regularly for any specific objectives or rules related to the **Totems** in your current game.
