Step by step

Game Objective

In Tag Team, you assemble a team of 2 extraordinary Fighters, each with their own unique deck of cards. The objective is to defeat your opponent's team through combat, attempting to Knock Out (KO) one or more enemy Fighters by reducing their Health Points (HP) until they reach the KO space.

Setup

To start the fun, follow these steps:

  1. Fighter Selection (Team Building): Before each fight, players use Draft cards to assemble their team. Shuffle half of the Draft cards and deal them to each player. You can use Standard Draft or Competitive Draft methods, or simply select the Fighters you wish to play.
  2. Positioning: Place the Fighter boards of your two chosen Fighters on the table in front of you.
  3. Health: Take 2 Health markers (green life markers) for each Fighter and place them on the starting space A of their Health track.
  4. Power: Take as many Power cubes (purple cubes) as each Fighter's Base Power indicates and place them in their Fighter's Power Supplies (above the boards).
  5. Special Markers: Consult each Fighter's guide to see if they have specific Special tracks or tokens and set them up as needed.
  6. Fight Decks: Each Fighter has a 10-card deck. Remove the Starting Card from each and set it aside.
  7. Fight Deck Assembly: Take both Starting Cards from each player, decide the order of play, and place them face down in a Fight Deck. The card to be played first should be on top.
  8. Build Deck Assembly: Shuffle the remaining 18 Fight cards (9 from each player) to create a single face-down Build Deck next to the boards.

Game Flow

The game takes place in a series of Rounds. Each Round consists of two repeating steps:

1. Fight! Step

In this phase, teams clash. The fight step is divided into Turns. In each Turn, both players simultaneously reveal the top card of their Fight Deck and perform the indicated Actions. The Active Fighter is the one whose card was revealed, and the other is their Partner.

2. Build! Step

At the end of each Round, you must strengthen your deck. Draw the top 3 cards from your Build Deck, choose one to add to your Fight Deck (you can place it on top, bottom, or between existing cards), and discard the other two to the bottom of the Build Deck.

Actions and How to Play

All Actions on the cards are mandatory. The main actions are:

  • Attack: The Active Fighter deals damage to the opponent. The damage value is equal to the fighter's Power at the start of the Turn. If there is Direct Damage in the same turn, it is added to the Attack value.
  • Block: Negates all Attacks from the opponent and their Partner this turn. Blocks do not negate Direct Damage. A successful block grants a Bonus Action.
  • Heal: Recovers a quantity of HP. Healing is interrupted if the health marker reaches a Stop on the Health Track.
  • Power Gain/Loss: Adds or removes Power cubes from the Power Supply. Power changes during the turn do not affect the Attack value performed in the same turn.
  • Transfer: Passes an item (such as Power) from one Fighter to their Partner.
  • Cancel: The opponent's card is completely ignored.
  • Direct Damage: HP loss indicated by an icon that is not an Attack. Cannot be blocked.
  • Success: If the health marker passes an icon on the Health Track (that is not a Stop), the effect of that icon is activated.

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends when one of the following triggers occurs:

  • Knocked Out (KO): If a Fighter's health marker is reduced to the KO space at the end of a Turn, they are out of combat. If this happens to a player, they lose the fight. Once KO'd, the fighter can no longer be healed.
  • Double KO! (Tie): If at least two Fighters from opposing teams suffer KO in the same turn, the fight is a tie.
  • Depleted Build Deck: If a player cannot draw 3 cards from their Build Deck for the Build Step, the fight is a tie.

Tips for Winning

  • Plan your card order: Since you don't shuffle your Fight Deck, try to position the cards you add in the Build Step to counter the opponent or exploit openings in their deck.
  • Pay attention to Power: Remember that your Attack value is determined by your Power at the start of the turn. Plan your power gains for the right moments.
