Objective of the Game

In Europa 1912, players are expanding the rail network across a detailed European map. Your goal is to accumulate the most points by claiming routes, completing Destination Tickets, and achieving specific end-game bonuses. This expansion builds upon the Ticket to Ride Europe experience, adding new layers of strategy to your journey across the continent.

Preparation (Setup)

To get the game ready, follow these steps:

  • Board: Use the Europa 1912 map (this is an Expansion Pack and requires the base game to play).
  • Trains: Each player receives 45 trains.
  • Destination Tickets:
    • Deal 1 long route Ticket and 3 regular route Tickets to each player.
    • Each player must keep ≥ 2.
    • Any unused long route Tickets should be discarded to the box.
    • Draw 3 regular Tickets from the deck.
    • Each player must keep ≥ 1.
  • Transportation Cards: Draw 3 cards from the deck. If there are ≥3 Wild Cards visible, re-deal all face-up Transportation Cards.

Game Flow

The game proceeds in turns. On your turn, you must perform one of the available actions to advance your rail empire. The game continues until the end-game trigger is met.

Actions and How to Play

During your turn, you may choose from the following actions:

  • Claiming a Route: Use Transportation Cards to claim a route on the board.
    • Parallel Routes: Note that Double, Triple, or Quadruple routes can be claimed, but NEVER by the same player.
    • Ferry routes: Included in this map.
    • Tunnel routes: Included in this map.
  • Drawing Cards: You may draw Transportation Cards from the face-up pile or the deck.
    • If you draw from the face-up pile, you may draw ≤1 card.
  • Building Stations: This action is available when playing with 4 - 5 players.
  • Using Depots: This expansion includes Warehouses & Depots, which can be used with any map.

End of Game and Scoring

The game reaches its conclusion when the end-game trigger is met. Once the game ends, points are tallied based on the following criteria:

  • Route Points: Points are awarded for the length of the routes claimed.
  • Destination Tickets: Points are awarded for completed Tickets.
  • European Express: An end-game bonus worth 10 pts for the Longest Continuous Path (LCP).
  • Stations: If you have unplayed stations, you receive 4 pts per unplayed station.
  • Depots: If using Depots, the player with the most unused Depots receives 10 pts.

Tips for Winning

Based on the manual, keep these strategic elements in mind:

  • Manage your Stations: Since unplayed stations grant 4 points each, they can serve as a fallback scoring method.
  • Watch the Parallel Routes: Remember that you can never claim a Double, Triple, or Quadruple route yourself; these are meant for different players.
  • Plan for the Longest Path: Aiming for the European Express bonus can provide a significant 10-point boost to your total score.
