Step by step
Game Objective
In Akropolis: Athena, you are an architect competing to build the most prestigious city and earn the favor of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, war, and crafts. Your goal is to complete the building cards showing specific layouts in your city to receive parts of the statue of Athena and bonuses. The game ends when only one piece remains in the construction site, and the winner is the player with the most points, including bonuses for honoring Athena.
Setup
You will need the base game Akropolis to play this expansion. Follow these steps:
- Set up the base game as usual.
- Shuffle the 18 building cards and remove 4, placing them face up for all to see.
- Take 16 mini-pieces at random and distribute 4 below each building card.
- Place parts of the statue of Athena (head, torso, legs, and pedestal) above each card, in quantities equal to the number of players.
The remaining pieces will not be used in this game.
Game Flow
The game follows the rules of the base Akropolis, with the addition of trying to complete the building cards to earn parts of the statue and bonus mini-pieces. Each player can complete each card only once per game.
During your turn, after placing a piece, check if your city meets the layouts on the cards. If so, resolve them in any order.
Actions and How to Play
Completing a Building Card
When you fulfill the layout of a card:
- Take the corresponding part of the statue of Athena.
- Choose one of the mini-pieces below the card and place it immediately in your city (on any level). If it covers a quarry, gain 1 stone.
Important:
- Mini-pieces are not replenished when taken.
- You cannot place a mini-piece on top of another.
Tips for Dual Districts
Pay attention to the orientation of Dual Districts to:
- Keep Residential Districts connected.
- Avoid having Markets touch each other.
- Position Barracks with one edge at the city's boundary.
- Take advantage of Temples already partially surrounded.
End of Game and Scoring
The game ends as in the base version: when only one piece remains in the construction site and all stacks have been used. In scoring:
- Players who completed a statue of Athena gain 5 points per stone (instead of 1).
Refer to the manual for details on the base game's scoring criteria.
Tips for Winning
- Complete the building cards early to have more mini-piece options.
- Plan the orientation of Dual Districts to maximize connections and avoid penalties.
