Getting Started with BoardGamesBot

1. Creating Your Free Account

Sign in with a single click using your Google Account. There are no passwords to remember. Having an account saves your conversation history, links your board game collection, and keeps your game night records safe across all your devices.

2. Asking Your First Rules Question

Head over to the Assistant or use the search bar on the Home page. Ask questions naturally as if you were speaking to a fellow player at the table — for example: "In Carcassonne, can I place a meeple on a feature already claimed by an opponent?"

3. Targeting Specific Games with @Mentions

To get the most accurate answers, type @ followed by the game title (e.g. @Catan, @Wingspan, @Azul, @Terraforming Mars). The assistant will instantly lock into that title's official rulebook and official errata.

Rules Assistant & Lens (Camera OCR & Audio)

1. Scanning Cards and Rulebooks with Lens

Open BoardGamesBot Lens on your mobile device or laptop. Take a clear picture of any card, tile, or rulebook paragraph. Lens detects the text, runs optical character recognition (OCR), and provides an instant explanation and translation.

2. Tips for Best Image Recognition

For best results: ensure good lighting, avoid direct lamp glare (especially on glossy card sleeves), hold the camera straight and steady, and frame the card so that the text occupies most of the picture.

3. Contextual Translation & Studio Voice Narration

Beyond word-by-word translation, BoardGamesBot translates specialized tabletop mechanics (e.g. "exhaust", "draw pile", "tarmac"). Tap the sound icon to hear flavor text or rules narrated out loud by natural studio voices.

Collection Management & Play Logs

1. Automatic Sync with BGG & Ludopedia

Go to "My Collection". Enter your BoardGameGeek or Ludopedia username and click "Import". Your entire library of base games, expansions, and owned copies will automatically import and stay synchronized.

2. Logging Plays and Match Scores

Under "Plays", record your game sessions with date, players, final scores, and winners. You can even attach photos of the final board to create a visual memory diary of your group's best gaming moments.

3. Sharing Your Collection with Friends

Every user has a custom public URL (e.g. /collection/your-username). Share it in your group chat before game night so friends can browse your shelves and vote on what to bring to the table.

Digital Tabletop Tools

1. First Player Selector (Online Chwazi)

Open the First Player tool. Each player places one finger on the smartphone or tablet screen. Within 3 seconds, a colored pulse selects who takes the first turn. Fast, unbiased, and fun!

2. 3D Realistic Dice Roller

Roll D6, D20, and custom sets with 3D physics on your screen. The tool sums total scores automatically, ideal for RPGs or when dice roll off the table.

3. Life Counter & Turn Hourglass

Keep track of hit points or victory points in head-to-head battles, and set an hourglass turn timer (30s, 60s, 120s) with audio cues to keep turns moving and eliminate analysis paralysis.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I ask a question about a specific game?

Simply type @ followed by the game name (for example, "@Catan can I build a settlement between two opponent roads?") to focus the AI on that game's official rulebook.

What makes BoardGamesBot different from generic AI like ChatGPT?

Generic models often invent rules or confuse game editions. BoardGamesBot indexes verified official rulebooks, errata, and expansions with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to ensure accuracy.

How do I import my collection from Ludopedia or BGG?

Go to "Collection", enter your Ludopedia or BoardGameGeek username, and click "Import". Your games and expansions will automatically synchronize.

Can I use BoardGamesBot offline?

Our tabletop tools (dice, timer, first player) can work offline once loaded as a PWA, but the AI Assistant and Lens require an internet connection to consult official rulebooks in the cloud.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

You can view your current plan, check remaining monthly quota, and cancel or update your subscription at any time under your Profile page.
