Step by step
Game Objective
In Arcadia Quest: Beyond the Grave, players control Guilds of heroes in a campaign against the Dread King and his hordes of undead. The goal is to complete PvP (Player vs. Player) and PvE (Player vs. Environment) missions in each scenario, accumulating advantages through Titles and Reward Cards. The final victory occurs by defeating the Dread King in the "Profane Mausoleum" scenario.
Setup
Each scenario has a specific map with:
- Starting Areas for each player.
- Monsters placed according to the diagram.
- Tomb Cards (quantity defined by the scenario), shuffled and placed face-down in the indicated spaces.
- Mission Tokens, Portals, and Doors (open/closed) as per the scenario.
Starting Equipment: Each player receives 5 standard equipment cards + 1 "Scythe" card, discarding one to keep a total of 5.
Game Flow
The game is divided into sequential scenarios (in campaign mode) or standalone (episodic mode). Each scenario follows this structure:
- Hero Activation: Players take turns, activating one hero at a time to perform actions.
- Guard Reactions: Nearby monsters may attack heroes who move or attack other targets.
- Mission Resolution: Upon meeting specific conditions (collecting tokens, killing enemies), players complete missions to earn rewards.
Monsters are activated by card effects or when the Spawn Tile fills up.
Actions and How to Play
Basic Actions
- Movement: Spend 1 point to move or reveal a Tomb Card in the same space.
- Attack: Roll dice according to the hero's weapon. Monsters react if they are Adjacent.
Tomb Cards
Revealed by spending 1 movement point. Their effects are immediate and usually benefit the active player. Some allow temporary monster activation.
Huge Characters
Like the Dread King, they occupy an entire space and block movement/line of sight. They can Push other characters when moving.
Banishment
Heroes or monsters can be sent to the Spawn Tile without dying. Banished heroes return to the game in the Starting Area or near allies when the tile fills up.
End of Game and Scoring
In the final scenario "Profane Mausoleum", the campaign ends when a player defeats the Dread King. Dead heroes receive Death Curse Cards, which can be removed by spending coins.
Tips to Win
- Prioritize Titles: They grant unique advantages in later scenarios. For example, the "Deceased of the Dead" title gives +1 reroll per character on the Spawn Tile.
- Control Monsters with Tomb Cards: Use them to activate monsters and direct their attacks against enemies.
- Beware of Ghosts: They ignore walls and doors, attacking heroes even from a distance.
