If you thought Arkham was dangerous, get ready for Innsmouth. This expansion drags investigators into a decaying, sinister fishing village where the smell of rotting fish is the least of your worries. In this town, everyone is against you. You and your partners will explore rotting docks and fetid beaches, searching for enough evidence to call in the feds before time runs out. But be careful: in Innsmouth, you might find yourself thrown in jail and served as a snack for a Shoggoth if you're not quick on your feet.
What makes this expansion stand out is the depth it adds to the base game. Now, every investigator has their own 'Personal Story,' bringing unique motivations to the plot. Additionally, the dreaded 'Innsmouth Look' introduces a layer of biological and psychological tension as you try to avoid becoming one of those abyssal creatures. If you slip up, the Deep Ones will gather and awaken the Ancient One, turning the village into an epicenter of cosmic chaos.
In terms of content, the box is massive. We're talking about over 300 new cards, including 16 new investigators to vary the group dynamics, eight new Ancient Ones to terrorize your table, and two new Heralds. There's also a dedicated board for the town of Innsmouth, new monster markers, and Epic Battle cards for the final showdowns. It's essentially a new game within the game, drastically expanding scenario possibilities and campaign difficulty. If you love the feeling of being a desperate detective fighting incomprehensible forces in a place where no one is who they seem, Innsmouth Horror is a must-have.
