Actions and How to Play
Detailed below are the specific mechanics and restrictions introduced or detailed in this expansion:
Lola Hayes' Rule
As an actress, Lola Hayes has the ability to take on different roles. At the start of each scenario, after investigators have drawn their starting hands, she must choose a role from: Neutral, Guardian, Seeker, Rogue, Mystic, or Survivor.
- Usage Restriction: Lola Hayes can only play cards, commit cards to skill tests, or activate abilities of cards that are Neutral or match the class of her chosen role.
- Note: This restriction applies only to player cards. Encounter cards or weakness cards are not affected. Additionally, Constant and Forced abilities remain active even if the card's class does not match Lola's role.
The "Exile" Mechanic
Some player cards have the instruction to be exiled when used.
- When a card is exiled, it is removed from play and returned to the collection.
- In campaigns: If a card has been exiled, the investigator must re-acquire it with experience points between scenarios so that it can return to their deck.
- Deck Adjustment: If the act of exiling cards reduces the investigator deck below its legal deck size, the player must acquire cards at the end of the scenario to maintain the legal size (they may acquire level 0 cards for 0 experience until the correct size is reached).
The "Researched" Mechanic
The keyword Researched is common in high-level cards (frequently in Seeker cards). To include a card with this keyword in your investigator deck, the following process must be followed:
- The investigator must first "identify" or "translate" the card by performing a specific task in the lowest-level version of that card.
- The result of the task must be recorded in the Campaign Log.
- Only after completing this task and recording it can the investigator upgrade the card from its lowest-level version.
- Once the task has been recorded in the Campaign Log, any investigator in the campaign can perform the card upgrade following the normal player card upgrade rules.
Example: To obtain Archaic Glyphs (Waystones), you must first complete the task for the Archaic Glyphs (Untranslated) version and record it in the Campaign Log.
