About the game
In Castles of Mad King Ludwig, you take on the role of a super-talented contractor, tasked with building the most extravagant and impressive castle for King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Forget boring building rules; here, the king has ever-changing whims, and your mission is to create a palace, room by room, worthy of an eccentric monarch. Inspired by real constructions like Neuschwanstein (yes, the one that inspired Disney castles!), the game challenges you to be creative and strategic.

Each player starts with a simple foyer, and from there the madness begins. One player becomes the Master Builder for the round, and they have the task of pricing a set of rooms available for purchase. The other players then buy the rooms they want, paying the Master Builder. The icing on the cake? The Master Builder gets to keep the leftover rooms, but without paying anything! It's an 'I cut, you choose' system where pricing is key.

When you add a room to your castle, you earn points based on the room's size and type, plus bonuses for its strategic location. And if you manage to 'complete' a room, connecting all its entrances to other rooms, one of seven special rewards is yours. Each round, a new player takes on the mantle of Master Builder, ensuring everyone gets a chance to dictate prices and benefit.

The game ends after several rounds, and then comes the final scoring! Additional points are awarded for bonus goals, for having the most popular rooms, and for being the most adaptable to the king's demands, which vary each game. Whoever ends up with the most castle points, of course, is the grand winner. Get ready to build a castle fit for a king... or at least one he won't order to be torn down!
