How to Play Civolution: Acceptance Letter

1. Objective of the Game

As newly admitted student beings, your goal is to improve your position by incorporating Extra Credits into your examinations. These expansions enhance the base Civolution game with unique starting benefits, creature taming, and powerful module upgrades. The core victory conditions remain unchanged from the base game (consult the manual for details).

2. Preparation (Setup)

Follow the base game setup, then add these steps for the Acceptance Letter expansions:

  1. Extra Credit A (Starting Attribute Chips): Shuffle the 6 chips. Place one randomly above each starting chip card during selection. When choosing a card, take its goal chip and starting attribute chip. Install the attribute chip in your stage partition and gain its benefit.
  2. Extra Credit B (Creature Chips): Shuffle the 6 creature chips into a face-down stack near the hunting table. Reveal the top chip as the visible creature.
  3. Extra Credit C (Level-4 Module Tiles): Shuffle the 15 tiles, then draw 3 per player. Players draft tiles in a snake draft (clockwise, then counterclockwise, then clockwise). Place chosen tiles beside your console and upgrade one corresponding module immediately.

3. Flow of the Game

The game follows the base Civolution structure with these additions:

  • Hunting Phase: The visible creature affects hunting outcomes (see "Actions and How to Play").
  • Feeding Phase: Feed tamed creatures for rewards (see Section 4).
  • Module Upgrades: Use the key action "Upgrade 1 main module" to activate level-4 module tiles.

Consult the manual for details about base game phases.

4. Actions and How to Play

Extra Credit A: Starting Attribute Chips

Each chip grants a unique starting benefit when installed:

  • Progressive: Advance 2 steps on a progress track and gain its bonus.
  • Prosperous: Place 2 markers on each of 3 storage spaces of one territory type.
  • Diverse: Place 1 marker on three different feature spaces.
  • Cultured: Draw 5 research cards (1 from each stack).
  • Expanding: Place 1 tribe on an encampment, develop a territory, and gain materials.
  • Prepared: Place 3 markers on each of your food, money, focus, and idea spaces.

Extra Credit B: Creature Chips

Perform a Hunt: If hunting in a territory matching the visible creature:

  1. Roll fate dice and choose one result.
  2. Gain food markers based on the hunting table.
  3. If the die value falls within your Favor of Agera track range, tame the creature.

Taming a Creature:

  1. Take the creature chip and reveal a new visible creature.
  2. Install the chip in your stage partition (dedicated column).
  3. Perform a lucky find in the creature’s territory type.

Feeding Phase: Feed creatures with stored materials of their territory type:

  • 1 material: Gain 2 idea markers.
  • 2 materials: Gain 2 ideas and 3 success points.
  • 3 materials: Gain 2 ideas, 3 success points, and progress track advancement.

Extra Credit C: Level-4 Module Tiles

Upgrade a level III module to level 4 by placing its tile into the recess. Each tile grants powerful effects (e.g., Activity lets you perform 2 actions, Research draws 6 cards and keeps 3). See pages 11–15 for all tile abilities.

5. End of Game and Scoring

Consult the base game manual for endgame triggers and scoring. The Acceptance Letter expansions do not alter victory conditions.

6. Tips to Win

  • Prioritize creature taming: Matching territory types during hunts maximizes rewards from feeding.
  • Leverage starting benefits: Use Expanding or Prepared chips for early resource advantages.
  • Plan module upgrades: Draft level-4 tiles that synergize with your strategy (e.g., Research for card-heavy play).
