If you're already a fan of Concordia, get ready to sail the Mediterranean with the Balearica / Italia expansion. Here, the focus shifts to the Balearic Islands, where the game dynamics get a fresh twist: forget the starting capital city; you now begin the game with two ships already at sea, ready to explore Maiorca, Minorica, Ebusus, and Frumentaria. The expansion introduces an interesting shift in colonization, allowing your land colonists to switch positions between islands, providing more flexibility to your domination strategy.
The real highlight, however, is the Fish Market. This new mechanic replaces the traditional bonus units from the Prefect with fish, which can be collected in double amounts in provinces that failed to produce in the previous round. What do you do with these fish? You sell them at the specialized market to obtain money, goods, or even special actions. It's that extra layer of planning that separates casual players from veterans, forcing you to think not just about the present, but about what the market will offer in the long run.
Beyond the Balearica map, the board is versatile: on the flip side, you'll find the Italia map, perfect for those who missed it in the Venus version. The Fish Market is modular, meaning you can use it with the Balearica map or integrate it into the base game and any other Concordia map you own. It's the ideal expansion for those who want to vary the experience without losing the elegant essence of the original system, adding new logistical and economic challenges in fascinating historical settings.
