Goal of the Game
In the Fireland expansion of Darwin's Journey, players retrace Charles Darwin's expedition through Tierra del Fuego. The goal is to explore the archipelago, undertake adventures, and manage Time efficiently to maximize victory points. The game ends when all exploration tracks are completed or when the players reach the Time limit. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Setup
Follow the steps below to prepare the game:
- Place the Fireland game map over the base board, covering the Land and Ocean tracks.
- Position the Time Track board near the main board.
- Shuffle the Crew cards, Objective tokens, Special Action tokens, and the Time Wax Seals with the base game components.
- Follow the base game setup rules. If you are using a Scenario card, follow the specific instructions indicated on the card.
- Place the Land Adventure and Ocean Adventure pieces on the corresponding icons on the board.
- Place the Point of View pieces at the end of the Land and Ocean tracks.
- Position each player's Time Track marker on space 0.
- Shuffle the Land Adventure and Ocean Adventure decks and place them next to the board.
- Place the Time Penalty pieces on the clock icons on the Time Track board.
- Each player receives one Adventure Scoring Aid card, 4 Explorers, and 2 Ships.
Gameplay Flow
The game is divided into turns, where players perform actions to explore Tierra del Fuego. During the game, players must manage their Time, moving their markers on the Time Track when performing actions that require spending or gaining Time. Penalties are applied as the marker advances along the track. The game ends when all exploration tracks are completed or when Time runs out.
Actions and How to Play
Players can perform several actions during the game:
- Exploration: Move your Explorer along the Land tracks, crossing golden ribbons to undertake Adventures.
- Navigation: Move your Ship along the Ocean tracks, unlocking new areas and undertaking Adventures.
- Adventures: Upon crossing an Adventure piece, draw a card from the corresponding deck and choose one of the two reward options, paying the associated costs.
- Time Management: Actions may require spending or gaining Time, moving the marker on the Time Track. Penalties are applied as the marker advances.
- Points of View: Upon reaching the end of a track, perform the action indicated by the Point of View piece.
End of Game and Scoring
The game ends when all exploration tracks are completed or when Time runs out. The final score is calculated based on:
- Adventure pieces collected (Land and Ocean).
- Time spent on the Time Track.
- Position on the Theory of Evolution Track.
- Objectives achieved.
The player with the most points wins.

- Manage your Time carefully, avoiding unnecessary penalties on the Time Track.
- Prioritize collecting Adventure pieces, as they offer significant victory points.
