About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready for an epic clash in the Dungeons & Dragons universe with the second edition of this miniatures game! The core idea is to assemble your own warband, spending up to 200 points to select warriors, mages, and creatures, but without exceeding 10 figures in total. The objective is straightforward: pit your battle force against your opponent's on a tactical map and see who emerges victorious. The rules have been refined for greater agility while preserving the essence of tactical combat that fans love. This edition has been updated to align with the 4th Edition of the D&D RPG, bringing a fresh perspective to the battles.
The game was released alongside miniature collections like Dungeons of Dread, Against the Giants, and Demonweb, each containing 60 assorted figures, with packs featuring 8 random miniatures and some colossal figures. The Starter Set, bundled with Dungeons of Dread, is an excellent starting point, including everything you need to jump in: a rulebook, five fixed miniatures with their stat cards, damage tracking counters, a 20-sided die, and two double-sided battle maps. Notable changes in the second edition include the simplification of alignment (now focusing only on Good or Evil) and the replacement of "Commanders" with "Champions." Forget morale checks; now, when a miniature loses half its health, it becomes "bloodied," which can trigger special effects. For those who enjoy collecting and expanding, Wizards of the Coast has made the stats for first-edition miniatures available online, adapted for this version, and has encouraged the creation of official stat cards for new miniatures released for the RPG. It's a game that rewards strategy and clever squad building, ideal for those who enjoy tactical combat with a collectible twist.
