Duplik, originally released as Portrayal and later as Identik, is a board game that sparks laughter and creativity in just a few minutes. In each round, one player takes on the role of the Art Director and describes a wildly absurd image without using forbidden words, while the other players must reproduce it solely from that description. The challenge becomes even more fun because the description has to be as clear as it is imaginative: overdo it and the drawing may miss the mark; be too vague and the result might resemble a cat doodle. When time runs out, the artists swap sketches and the ticking sand timers reveal the ten secret criteria the artwork must meet. Each player then decides whether the drawing they are judging meets those requirements and, if so, earns points.
The game accommodates 3 to 10 players, lasts about 45 minutes, and is perfect for parties, family nights, or any moment when you want to see who has the best sense of humor and drawing skills. The components are simple: image cards, score tokens, pencils, and of course the sand timer that keeps the pace tight. Because the game relies on textual descriptions, the Portuguese version requires a full translation so all players can understand the instructions and images—an important caveat for those without access to the official English version.
Duplik doesn’t demand much strategy; what matters is communication, interpretation, and the fun of guessing what the other is drawing. If you love fast games, plenty of chatter, and want something that makes everyone laugh, Duplik is the right pick.
