Step by step
Game Overview
Ganz Schön Clever: Challenge I is a clever dice game for 1-4 players. The goal is to choose your dice wisely and mark them in the matching colored areas on your Score sheet. By putting together tricky chain scoring opportunities, you aim to rack up the most points. Keep in mind that the dice you don't use are just as important as the ones you do, because any die with a lower value than your chosen die can be used by other players, keeping everyone in the game!
Setup
To get the game started, follow these steps:
- Each player receives a Felt-tip pen and a Score sheet.
- Randomly choose a starting player, who picks up the 6 Dice.
Gameplay
The game is played over a specific number of rounds depending on the player count: 4 rounds for 4 players, 5 rounds for 3 players, or 6 rounds for 1 and 2 players.
The Active Player's Turn
The Active player receives all 6 Dice and follows these steps:
- Roll all 6 Dice once.
- Choose one die and place it onto one of your 3 Dice fields on the Score sheet without changing its number.
- Use the value and color of that die to mark a corresponding number in the matching color field on your Score sheet. Note: The white die is a wild color and can be used for any color.
- Place all dice showing a lower value than the selected die onto the Silver Platter. If the selected die is the lowest value, no dice are moved.
- If dice remain, roll them a second time and repeat the process.
- If dice remain, roll a third time and repeat the process.
- After the third roll (or if you run out of dice), place all remaining dice not on your Score sheet onto the Silver Platter.
Note: If you choose a high-value die early, you might run out of dice for rerolls.
Passive Players' Turn
Once the Active player has placed 3 dice onto their Score sheet or can no longer reroll, the Passive players take their turn:
- All Passive players simultaneously choose one die from the Silver Platter to mark a space on their Score sheet.
- If a Passive player cannot use any die from the Silver Platter, they may use one die from the Active player's Score sheet.
- After all Passive players have chosen, the player to the left of the Active player becomes the new Active player and takes all six dice.
A round ends after each player has been the Active player once.
Actions and How to Play
Players can unlock Actions during the game. Once unlocked, they can be used immediately or saved for later. You can perform as many Actions as you have available in a single turn.
Actions
- Reroll: Only available to the Active player. You can spend an action to reroll all dice that were just thrown (excluding dice already on your Score sheet or the Silver Platter).
- Extra die: Can only be performed at the end of a round. You choose any of the six dice (including one just taken by the active player or a passive player) to mark a space. You can use multiple Extra die actions in a round, but each individual die can only be chosen once per round this way.
Scoring Areas and Bonuses
The Score sheet contains several areas:
- Yellow area: Cross out the value of the chosen die. Once a column is complete, circle the starred number for points.
- Blue area: Use a blue die or combine a blue die with the white die to determine the value.
- Green area: Mark spots from left to right. You must meet the minimum required value to proceed.
- Orange area: Mark spots from left to right. Some fields have multipliers (e.g., x2).
- Purple area: Mark spots from left to right. Each number must be higher than the previous one (except after a 6, where any number can follow).
- White die: A wild color that can act as yellow, green, orange, or purple, or combine with a blue die.
Bonuses
- X-bonus: Completing a row, column, or field with an X-bonus allows you to immediately mark a box in the corresponding color area (yellow, blue, or the next green field).
- Number bonus: A colored background with a number allows you to immediately place that number in the next available space in that area.
- Foxes: These award points at the end of the game. Each Fox scores as many points as your lowest-scoring colored area.
End of Game and Scoring
The game ends after the last Active player has finished their turn in the final round and all Passive players have taken their actions. Any remaining Reroll actions expire.
Scoring Criteria
- Blue area: Count the marks made and use the scale at the top to determine points.
- Green area: Score the starred number above the last selected field.
- Orange area: Sum of all recorded numbers (including multipliers).
- Purple area: Sum of all recorded numbers.
- Foxes: Each Fox scores points equal to the value of your lowest-scoring colored area. If a colored area scores 0, Foxes are worthless.
The player with the most points wins!
