About the game
What you do in a play session
Hey board game fans! Ready for a chilly and intense challenge? In Halls of Hegra, you take command of Norwegian volunteers in an abandoned mountain fortress, bravely fighting against German forces at the start of World War II. This game is pure solo adrenaline, reminiscent of classics like 'Robinson Crusoe' and 'This War of Mine', but with a strategic wargame twist.
The game unfolds in three crucial phases: Mobilization, where you explore the fortress, deal with snow and broken equipment, and organize supply lines; the 1st Attack, where you defend the village below and undertake risky patrols to secure resources; and the Siege, the climax where you must withstand constant bombing and keep your troops' morale high.
The mechanics blend the best of several worlds: worker placement (with different types of pawns!), deck/bag building to improve your options, dice rolling for a touch of unpredictability, point-to-point movement, and of course, that hint of 'push your luck' that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The variable setup ensures each game is a new experience, and the area control with tower defense elements will have you on the edge of your seat.
With a high rating and a considered medium-heavy weight, Halls of Hegra is an immersive and challenging experience for those who enjoy complex and thematic solo games. Prepare to make tough decisions and feel the weight of responsibility. Can you survive the siege?
