Step by step

Game Objective

In Imhotep: A New Dynasty, you are a construction project leader in Ancient Egypt, competing to build impressive monuments. The goal is to accumulate more victory points than your opponents by strategically delivering stones to different construction sites, taking advantage of new mechanics and variable boards.

Setup

  • Choose a side (A, B, C, or D) for each of the 5 types of boards (Market, Pyramid, Temple, Burial Chamber, Obelisks). They can be freely combined.
  • Add the 14 new market cards to the base game deck.
  • To use the god prophecies (optional), shuffle the 7 cards and reveal 3 randomly. Each player receives 2 beetle tokens in their color.
  • Consult the manual for details on the initial distribution of specific components (such as coin tokens in the Luxury Market or placing the Imhotep token in the Corridor).

Game Flow

The game maintains the basic structure of Imhotep, with rounds divided into turns where players perform actions such as collecting stones, placing stones on ships, or sending ships to construction sites. The main changes are in the effects of the new boards:

  • At some locations, such as the Temple of Ra, bonuses are awarded at the end of each round.
  • Boards like the Funeral Tomb or The Great Obelisk have unique scoring systems at the end of the game.

Consult the manual for details on this section.

Actions and How to Play

New Boards and Actions

  • Luxury Market (C): Allows purchasing two adjacent cards by paying one coin token (twice per game).
  • Pyramid with Scaffolding (C): Stones are placed in layers with intermediate scores for majority.
  • Temple of Ra (C): Various bonuses for visible stones on top at the end of the round.
  • Arena (D): Move your chariot to gain points based on position.

Market Cards

  • Cargo Sled: Increases stone storage capacity.
  • Barge: Allows placing a stone directly at a location, returning 2 to the quarry.
  • Loading Platform: Send a ship to a location already visited in the round.

Consult the manual for details on other cards and actions.

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends after 6 rounds. Points are calculated based on:

  • Specific boards: Such as connected areas in the Funeral Tomb or completed rows in the Obelisk.
  • God prophecies: Extra points (or losses) for fulfilling announced tasks with beetle tokens.
  • Market cards: Such as Stone Ornament, which scores stones in your stock.

The player with the most points wins. In case of a tie, the manual does not specify a tiebreaker criterion.

Tips for Winning

  1. In the Black Market (D), prioritize spaces with face-up cards to secure immediate benefits.
  2. Use the god prophecies strategically, announcing them in rounds 3-4 to balance risk and reward.
  3. In the Funeral Tomb (D), distribute stones across multiple small areas to maximize points (up to 4 per stone).
