Step by step

Game Objective

In Lux Nova, players compete to become the greatest stained-glass window builders, bringing new light to grand constructions. The goal is to score more points than your opponents by strategically placing your cards to create connected color areas on the stained-glass window.

Setup

  1. Take a sheet of paper and write down each player's name in a column to keep track of scores.
  2. Shuffle the cards and form a face-down deck.
  3. Reveal one card from the deck and place it in the center of the table.
  4. Each player draws one card from the deck and adds it to their hand.

Refer to the manual for details on this section.

Game Flow

The game starts with a random player and proceeds clockwise. On their turn, each player must:

  1. Play a Card: Place a card from your hand onto the table, connecting it to at least one already revealed card. Connections must be made along the edges of the cards.
  2. Score Points: After playing the card, tally points based on the connected colors.
  3. Draw a Card: At the end of the turn, draw a new card from the deck (if available) to replenish your hand.

Actions and How to Play

Playing a Card

To play a card, connect it to at least one card already on the table using the edges (each card has six edges with one or two colors). At least one edge of your card must match an edge of a card already in play.

Scoring Points

Each card has three or four stained-glass sections, each with a specific color. To score:

  • Check each section of the card you played.
  • If the section is connected to an area of the same color, count all sections in that area (including those on other cards).
  • Score one point for each connected section of that color.

The circles in the center of the stained-glass sections help with counting.

Drawing a Card

After playing, draw a new card from the deck to keep your hand at one card (unless the deck runs out).

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends when all cards from the deck have been played. The player with the most points wins. In case of a tie:

  • The player who scored the most points with a single card wins.
  • If the tie persists, the players share the victory.

Tips to Win

  • Connect colors strategically: Prioritize placing cards that create large areas of the same color to maximize your points.
  • Observe the cards on the table: Plan your moves to connect to already scoreable areas.

Advanced Variant

For more options, each player starts with two cards in hand and replenishes to two cards after playing (unless the deck runs out).

Solo Play

Play cards sequentially, tracking your score. Try to beat your record in future games.
