About the game
What you do in a play session
If you live for the rush of opening a booster pack and praying for that legendary miniature, Mage Knight is calling your name! This WizKids classic was the true pioneer that took the collectible card game (CCG) concept and slammed it onto the battlefield with pre-painted plastic miniatures. The real genius here is the 'Clix' system: every miniature features a rotating dial on its base to track stats and damage. Forgot to track HP? Just click the dial and you're good to go—no messy paper sheets required.
The gameplay follows classic wargaming vibes: you build an army within a specific point limit and face off against your opponent in tactical combat. The goal is straightforward yet intense: wipe out enemy forces, capture them, or force a retreat. The game saw a massive evolution with the 2.0 version, which added layers of strategic depth through items, custom terrain, and spellbooks, allowing your warriors to be much more than just 'pieces' on a board.
Keep an eye out for the difference between the original and the 2.0 version, as the rules and even the visual style (check the logo!) shifted. The newer version is much more robust, offering character customization that changes the game entirely. It's a perfect blend of collecting, tactics, and the feeling of commanding a real fantasy army. If you love miniatures and want fast-paced combat where every unit's status is always visible, Mage Knight is a legendary title that belongs on your shelf!
