About the game
In Mangrovia, we dive into a Caribbean mangrove setting where the competition for space to build huts becomes the core of the game. The clever part here is an action selection system that lets you choose two actions and even decide the order they happen, all with a single marker. This flexibility ensures each game is different and forces you to think carefully about your moves, because the game gets tight very quickly!

The goal is to become the successor to the old chief by accumulating chief points. How? By dominating the 'divine paths' with your huts (who has the most and who has the second most wins!), controlling sacred locations, collecting amulets, and building in valuable spaces. But beware: to build, the space needs to be 'active,' and you must pay the exact price. No overpaying! This requirement makes the game tense from the start, and the tension only increases as rounds pass and building options dwindle.

Strategy revolves around choosing and combining 'rituals' (the actions) at the right time. A boat travels through the rituals, activating them. An earlier ritual gives you access to cards sooner but might leave you with fewer good building spots later, and vice versa. There's also the option to choose which landscapes become 'active' and become the first player, gaining control over the next round. Amulets are a trump card: you can use them to build in specific locations, which might be the key to securing that missing majority. Gathering enough amulets of the right value by strategically placing your huts increases your chances of success. Prepare for a game that demands planning and adaptation in every round!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the average playtime for Mangrovia?
A game of Mangrovia typically lasts between 75 and 90 minutes, depending on the number of players and their familiarity with the game.
Is Mangrovia a game for beginners or more experienced players?
It's considered a light/family game with accessible rules, but it offers enough strategic depth to please more experienced players. It's a great 'gamer's game' to introduce new players to.
How many players can participate in a game?
Mangrovia can be played by 2 to 5 players.
What are the main components of the game?
The game features a modular board representing the islands, wooden pieces for player huts, action markers, cards, and amulet tokens.
What makes Mangrovia so replayable?
Replayability comes from the combination of a potentially different board setup each game and, most importantly, the action and turn order selection system, which allows for varied strategic approaches every time.
Do you need to pay the exact price to build? What happens if I have more money?
Yes, you must pay the exact price for the space. If you have more resources (cards) than required, you cannot build on that space. This makes the game more challenging and requires good hand management.
