Step by step

Game Objective

In Munchkin 6: Demented Dungeon, players explore crazy dungeons filled with absurd rules and unexpected effects. The goal is to reach Level 10 first by defeating monsters, collecting treasures, and using sneaky strategies against other players. The Dungeon Cards add special rules that affect everyone, making each game unique and chaotic.

Setup

To begin:

  • Separate the Dungeon Cards into their own deck (they are larger so they don’t mix with others).
  • Choose the first Dungeon in play: it can be random, decided by the winner or loser of the last game, or by agreement among players.
  • Shuffle the remaining Dungeons and place them in a face-down pile.
  • Prepare the Portal Cards (especially the Doors from this set) according to the number of supplements used. If playing with just the base game, use 8 Portals (one of each type); with expansions, use all 16.

Consult the manual for details on this section.

Game Flow

The game follows the standard Munchkin format, with individual turns where players explore dungeons, fight monsters, and sabotage each other. The main differences are:

  • Active Dungeons: Active rules affect all players until they are discarded.
  • Portals: When a player finds a Portal (face-up or face-down), they can switch Dungeons or add a new one, following the card’s instructions.

Consult the manual for details on this section.

Actions and How to Play

Dungeon Cards

  • Affect all players while they are in play.
  • You can be in multiple Dungeons at the same time.
  • If two Dungeons conflict, the last one played takes precedence.
  • When discarding a Dungeon, follow its instructions to reverse effects.

Portals

  • If you draw a face-up Portal, follow its instructions immediately and then draw another face-up Portal.
  • If you draw a face-down Portal, choose: play it immediately (following the rules) or save it to use later (only on your turn, outside of combat).
  • When playing a Portal, always draw a new Portal to replace it (in the same state: face-up or face-down).

Changing Dungeons Without a Portal

On your turn, you can discard 4 cards from your hand to "find an exit": draw a new Dungeon and decide whether to discard a current one or not.

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends when a player reaches Level 10. Some Dungeons allow gaining levels by entering, exiting, or fulfilling conditions, but these levels cannot be the winning level unless the card specifies.

Tips to Win

  • Explore multiple Dungeons: Being in more than one can combine beneficial effects or protect you from bad rules.
  • Save strategic Portals: Use them at the right time to switch to advantageous Dungeons or hinder opponents.
  • Monitor active rules: Some Dungeons may negate class abilities or items—plan ahead to avoid surprises.
