Step by step

Game Objective

The goal of Project L: Finesse is to complete puzzles using pieces of different shapes to earn victory points. The expansion adds Finesse cards, which provide additional objectives and reward players with Credits, a new resource that can be exchanged for extra actions.

Setup

Follow the standard setup for the base game of Project L, then prepare the expansion:

  • Place all Credits in a bank accessible to all players.
  • Separate the Finesse cards by set (A, B, and C).
  • Randomly select 2 cards from sets A and B, and 6 from set C. Shuffle the 10 selected cards.
  • Place the cards below the black puzzles row, with the first two face down and the rest face up.

Game Flow

The game proceeds in rounds, with each player taking their turn:

  • Only the leftmost Finesse card (face up) can be completed during a round.
  • At the end of each round, the leftmost card is removed from the game.
  • In the first two rounds, no Finesse card can be completed (the first two cards are face down).

Actions and How to Play

Completing a Finesse

To complete a Finesse card, you must fulfill the objective described on the card:

  • Set A: Requires placing specific pieces on puzzles.
  • Set B: Requires having specific pieces at the end of your turn.
  • Set C: Features varied requirements.

Credits

When completing a Finesse, you earn Credits as indicated on the card. At the end of your turn, move the earned Credits to the right side of your player board (active Credits).

Insertion

During your turn, you may spend 2 active Credits to take an additional action (this does not count toward the 3-action limit per turn). The Master Action can still only be used once per turn.

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends when:

  • The black puzzles deck runs out (play one additional round).
  • The last Finesse card is removed (after the 10th round).

During Final Adjustments, you may spend 1 Credit to avoid losing 1 point per placed piece. In case of a tie in points, the player with the most Credits wins.

Tips to Win

  • Prioritize completing Finesse cards to earn Credits and extra actions.
  • Use Credits strategically to maximize your actions per turn.
  • Pay attention to Set B card requirements, which require end-of-turn planning.
