About the game
Quissama: The Empire of Capoeiristas throws players into Rio de 1868, a world of capoeira, politics and trade. Each player picks a character – from an English detective to a liberating prince – and receives a hand of cards representing abilities, resources and secret goals. The game blends hand management, open drafting, worker placement and area majority: you draw and combine cards to expand your influence across neighborhoods, place meeples that generate coins, open trade routes and even free enslaved people. Certain card combos grant the right to select a new character, shifting your victory condition mid‑game. While you build your empire, opponents can launch malta attacks, deploy ministers to block your spots, or steal characters you’ve fought for. Playtime is brisk (15‑45 minutes) and the light weight (2.6/5) makes it easy to learn, yet still offers meaningful tactical choices. Vibrant art showcases Afro‑Brazilian culture and Rio’s districts, reinforcing a festive yet tense atmosphere. If you enjoy card‑driven games with a historic flavor and like balancing economic and political strategies, Quissama offers a fun, twist‑filled experience without taxing your memory. Perfect for small groups seeking a thematic, quick, and highly interactive game.
