Step by step
Objective of the Game
As a Lord seeking new lands, your goal in Royal Wedding XXL is to expand your Kingdom by cleverly connecting dominoes, constructing new Buildings, recruiting influential Characters from The Court, collecting tax, and winning Quests. You must navigate various events and avoid Giants. The ultimate goal is to score the most victory points with your territories and wealth. You will build your Kingdom in a grid size determined by the number of players: a 7x7 grid for 5 players (or up to 10 in 2-player teams), an 8x8 grid for 4 players (or up to 8 in 2-player teams), or a 9x9 grid for 3 players (or up to 6 in 2-player teams).
Preparation (Setup)
Step 1
- XXL Playmat: Place the XXL playmat in the center of the table, ensuring enough space around it for each player/team's XXL Kingdom playmat.
- Fantastic Era Dominoes: Shuffle the 48 Dominoes from Queendomino with the 12 new Dominoes from the Fantastic Era expansion, numbered side up. Place all these Dominoes inside the “Fantastic Era” Tower, which is then placed on its reserved spot on the left of the XXL Playmat. All dominoes will be used.
- Age of Giants Dominoes: Shuffle the 48 Dominoes from Kingdomino with the 12 Dominoes from the “Age of Giants” expansion, numbered/lettered side up. Place all these Dominoes inside the “Age of Giants” Tower, which is then placed on its reserved spot on the right of the XXL Playmat. All dominoes will be used.
- Fantastic Event Tiles: Shuffle the “Fantastic Event” tiles (from Fantastic Era expansion) face down. Create a pile with a specific number of tiles based on player count: 12 tiles for a 5-player game, 15 tiles for a 4-player game, or 20 tiles for a 3-player game. Place this pile face down on its reserved spot on the left of the XXL Playmat (on the top). The top tile is not revealed yet.
- Challenge Tiles: Shuffle the “Challenge” tiles (from Age of Giants expansion) with the Challenge side hidden. Draw 4 of the 17 Challenge tiles randomly and reveal them face up for all to see. Place them on their reserved spots on the right of the XXL Playmat.
- Building Tiles: Shuffle the “Buildings” tiles from the Queendomino base game and those from the “Fantastic Era” expansion together. Create two equivalent piles, grey side up. Place them on the two reserved spots on the XXL playmat (red dots).
- Initial Building Tiles: Turn the first 6 Building tiles over from each stack and place them, grey side up, on the allocated spots on the XXL playmat.
- The Court Tiles (if applicable): If using one or two sets of “The Court” expansion, shuffle the Character tiles and Building tiles from these expansions together. Create two equivalent piles (or one if using only one set), picture side down. Place them on the two reserved spots on each side of the “Builders” tiles on the XXL playmat. Reveal the first 3 tiles in each stack.
- Queen and Dragons: Place the Queen meeple at the bottom of the XXL playmat (on the Queen's Tower next to the “Builders” area) and the two Dragons on their cave square.
- Towers, Knights, and Coins: Place the Towers and Knights on their reserved spot on the left of the XXL playmat. The player in charge of the bank places the coins on their allocated spot on the XXL playmat and takes the XXL Bank account pad.
- The Court Resources (if applicable): If using “The Court” expansion, place the Resources on their reserved spots on the XXL playmat.
- Player Kingdom Playmats: Each player (or team) takes an XXL kingdom playmat according to the player count: five 7x7 grid playmats for a 5-player game, four 8x8 grid playmats for a 4-player game, or three 9x9 grid playmats for a 3-player game.
- Starting Tiles and Castles: Each player (or team) takes a starting tile (a square) and the castle of their color. They place the starting tile face up on their XXL kingdom playmat and then place the castle on it. For a 4-player game, use the 2x2 starting tiles.
- Kings: Each player takes two kings of their color. Place the chosen Kings in the velvet purse.
- Initial Knights and Coins: Each player draws one Knight and receives a total of 7 coins. They place them on the allocated spot on their XXL Kingdom playmat.
Step 2
- Dominoes from Fantastic Era Tower: Pull as many Dominoes as there are players/teams from the “Fantastic Era” dispenser tower. Display them in a line, numbered side up, on the reserved spots on the XXL playmat in front of their dispenser tower (using the left spots first). Line them up in numerical order, with the lowest number nearest the tower and the highest number at the bottom of the line. Once organized, flip them over.
- Dominoes from Age of Giants Tower: Pull as many Dominoes as there are players from the “Age of Giants” tower. Display them in a line, numbered side up, on the reserved spots on the XXL playmat in front of their dispenser tower (using the left spots first). Line them up in numerical order, with the lowest number nearest the tower and the highest number at the bottom of the line. If Dominoes have letters instead of numbers, organize them alphabetically and place them above the numbered Dominoes. Once organized, flip them over.
- The Court Resources on Dominoes (if applicable): If playing with “The Court” expansion, add resources to each square without a crown on the placed dominoes: Wheat field > Wheat, Forest > Wood, Lakes > Fish, Meadow > Sheep. Swamps and Mines receive nothing. Remember to place Resources on Dominoes that make a Giant appear.
- Player Order Determination: One player takes the Kings used for the game and places them in the velvet purse. They shake it well and draw Kings one by one. When a player's King appears, they place it on an empty Domino in the line from the “Fantastic Era” tower. The first King drawn can take any domino. Only one King can be on each Domino. When a player's second King appears, they place it on an empty Domino in the line from the “Age of Giants” tower in the same way. If playing by team, each player can play one of the King meeples, always starting with the “Fantastic Era” dispenser tower.
Fluxo do Jogo
The game round always begins with the Kings placed on the Dominoes from the “Fantastic Era” dispenser tower. The playing order is determined by the positions of the Kings on the Dominoes line: the player whose King is on the first Domino (nearest to the dispenser towers) starts.
Each player takes their turn by performing actions A through F in order. Only actions A and F are mandatory; the others are optional.
After all players have taken their actions for the Dominoes from the “Fantastic Era” dispenser tower, the game proceeds in the same way with the Dominoes from the “Age of Giants” dispenser tower, using the same playing order. Again, each player must take actions A-F, with A and F being mandatory.
End of the Game Turn
Once all players have completed their actions for both sets of Dominoes, prepare the XXL playmat for the next round:
- The Court Sections: If Buildings or Characters from “The Court” expansion have been built/recruited, fill up the emptied spots with the first tiles from the draws.
- Builders Sections: Send the Dragons back to their cave. Then, slide the remaining buildings on the “builders” board towards the cheapest spots, and fill up the emptied spots with the first buildings from the draw.
- Renew Dominoes: Form a new line of Dominoes pulled from the “Fantastic Era” dispenser tower and reveal them. Form a new line of Dominoes pulled from the “Age of Giants” dispenser tower, but do not reveal them yet.
- Reveal Fantastic Event Tile: Pull one new “Fantastic Event” tile from the draw for the next round and discard the previous one. (In the first round, the first “Fantastic Event” tile is revealed at the end of the round and impacts the next round).
A new round then starts, beginning with applying the effects of the newly revealed “Fantastic Event” tile.
Ações e Como Jogar
Players take the following actions during their turn:
A - (Mandatory) Add the chosen Domino to your territory according to connection rules:
To place your chosen Domino, you must follow two rules:
- The connection rule: The domino must be connected to another domino matching at least one of its landscapes (horizontally or vertically only). The starting domino can be considered a wild domino, allowing any landscape to connect to it.
- The surface rule: All your dominoes must fit within your Kingdom's grid size (7x7, 8x8, or 9x9).
If you cannot add a domino according to these rules, it is discarded, and you will not score points for it (and its resources from “The Court” expansion pack, if applicable, return to the XXL playmat). You are not allowed to discard a domino if it could have been placed. If a Domino shows a Giant (with a letter on the back), it comes into play regardless of whether the Domino can be added to the Kingdom or not.
Giants: When you select a Domino with a letter, a Giant has invaded your Kingdom. Once you add this Domino, you MUST take a Giant meeple and place it on any crown in your Kingdom. If there are no crowns, the effect is dismissed. A crown covered by a Giant meeple does not score at the end of the game. To get rid of Giants, when you add a Domino with footsteps (numbered 49-54), you can remove one Giant from your Kingdom and give it to any other player, who must place it on any crown in their Kingdom. If you have no Giants, this effect is dismissed.
B - (Optional) Send 1 or 2 Knights to collect tax:
If you have Knights in your Guard, you may collect tax after connecting your Domino:
- Take a Knight from your Guard and place it on the Domino you just placed.
- Immediately collect coins equal to the number of squares in the territory your Knight was placed on.
- The Knight remains on this square until the end of the game (unless a “Fantastic Event” tile moves it).
You may place up to 2 Knights during a round (one on each square of the Domino). You can place a Knight on a territory where other Knights have been placed previously.
C - (Optional) Construct a Building:
You need at least one “Town” square still under construction to build. This can be a square added in a previous or current round.
- Choose an available building from the “Builders” section on the XXL Playmat (not from the draw pile).
- Pay the bank the listed price for the chosen Building.
- Add this Building to a construction site of your choice, red side up.
When a Building is constructed, it leaves an empty spot on the “Builders” section for the duration of the round.
Building Effects:
- Immediate effects (Upper left corner):
- Knights: Take the indicated number of Knights and add them to your personal guard.
- Towers: Place the indicated number of Towers on the Building you are constructing. If your Kingdom has the most Towers (even in a tie), the Queen joins it. The Queen lowers your building cost by 1 coin. At the end of the game, if you host her, she counts as one extra crown on your most expansive territory.
- Effects active during a game (Lower left corner):
- Knight Tax Bonus: Each time you collect tax, you immediately collect an ADDITIONAL coin value equal to the number of Knights in your possession (Kingdom and Guard), not in the cemetery section. Also, an ADDITIONAL coin value equal to the number of Knights from “The Court” expansion pack (with the icon at the top right).
- Tower/Queen Tax Bonus: Each time you collect tax, you immediately collect an ADDITIONAL coin value equal to the number of Towers in your Kingdom. If you are hosting the Queen, you collect an ADDITIONAL coin.
- Crowns (Upper right corner): A picture of a crown on a Building tile means your Town territories will be worth as much as the number of squares times the number of crowns in that territory at the end of the game.
- Value of a building at the end of a game (Lower right corner): A picture indicates the number of Victory points the Building brings at the end of the game.
- Separate Territory points: You score 2 points for each separate territory in your kingdom at the end of the game.
- Tower points: You score 1 point for each tower in your kingdom at the end of the game.
- Knight points: You score 1 point for each knight in your kingdom at the end of the game (Kingdom and Guard), plus 1 additional point for each Knight from “The Court” expansion pack.
C' - (Optional) Rebuild a construction:
If a “Fantastic Event” tile caused a collapse of a Tower or “Building”, you may reconstruct one per round:
- Reconstruct Building/Tower: Pay the bank 3 coins (worth 1). The “Building” tile is turned red side up (or reappears for “The Court” tiles). A Tower figurine can be straightened up on its tile.
- Clear Land: Pay the Bank 1 coin to clear the land and make it buildable again. If it's a Tower, it's placed with others in the center
