RUM is a fast‑paced card game that packs a lot of excitement into a short playtime, perfect for players who love quick but intense rounds. Each participant takes on the role of a pirate rummaging through a shipwreck to collect rum bottles. During each turn you lay down a set of bottles—anywhere from one to three cards—in an attempt to claim Captain cards that score points. If another pirate plays a larger set, they can snatch the Captain card you just earned, so keep an eye on stealing opportunities. The game proceeds in rapid turns, and it ends in one of two ways: a player hits the target score or the Castaway Clock rotates to the Pirate Ship (the eighth position).
The "press your luck" element appears when you decide how many bottles to play; more cards increase your chance of winning a Captain but also give opponents a chance to outdo you. Hand management is key, as you must balance what to keep for future tricks and what to discard to avoid running out of options. Open drafting lets everyone see the available cards, making opponent reading easier. Interrupts show up when a Parrot card can steal rum from another player at any moment, adding a humorous "take that" twist.
Beyond collecting rum sets, you vie for area majority/influence, earning extra points for controlling specific board zones. The race to be the first to reach the required score creates tension, while the pirate theme and mischievous parrot give the game a light‑hearted, thematic flavor. With simple components—colorful cards, a tiny clock, and a few tokens—RUM offers accessible fun for 2‑4 players in just 10‑20 minutes, making it ideal for a quick break or a casual game night.
