Objective of the Game
In Sky Team: Turbulence, you and your co-pilot must navigate increasingly difficult flight conditions to land the plane safely. This expansion introduces new modules, challenging scenarios, and new destinations. Your goal is to manage the aircraft's systems and descent through various weather conditions and mechanical failures to ensure a successful landing.
Preparation (Setup)
Depending on the scenario or module being played, follow these specific setup instructions:
- Alarms Module: Place the Alarm board next to the Control Panel. Shuffle the Alarm tokens and place them face down in the spaces on the Alarm board.
- Altitude 5000 Module: The game begins with the 5000 space in the Current Altitude space instead of the 6000. Note that you lose your starting reroll token and have one less turn.
- Total Trust Module: If the Co-Pilot Radio or Pilot Radio symbol is in the Current Position screen at the end of the round, players must skip the Strategy Discussion in Phase 1 and simply roll their dice at the beginning of the following round.
- Turbulence/Bad Visibility Modules: Place the required Altitude Track (A, B, C, or D) into the Altitude slot instead of the standard Altitude Track.
- Engine Failure Scenario: Place two Intern tokens face down on each of the Engine spaces. You will not be able to place dice here; this Action is no longer mandatory.
- Stuck Landing Gear Scenario: Place 3 Intern tokens face down on the Landing Gear spaces. You will not be able to place dice here. You will only use the 2 Alarm tokens requiring blue dice and the Alarm token for the Concentration space. Remove the other 3 Alarm tokens from the game.
- Ice Runway Scenario: Place the Wind module with the arrows pointing downward instead of up. Instead of Airplane tokens, use the Penguin tokens on the Approach Track.
Game Flow
The game follows a structured sequence of turns and rounds. While the core loop remains consistent with the base game, specific modules and scenarios can alter the flow:
- Turn Structure: Players take turns placing dice on Action spaces on the Control Panel.
- Environmental/Event Effects:
- If an Alarm symbol is in the Current Position space at the start of a round, flip an Alarm token face up.
- If the Bad Visibility or Turbulence symbol is in the Current Altitude space, apply the specific rules for that event.
- In the Engine Failure scenario, at the end of every round, advance both the Approach Track and Altitude Track one space.
- Communication: In the Total Trust module, the Strategy Discussion in Phase 1 may be skipped if the radio symbol is present.
Actions and How to Play
Players use dice to perform Actions on the Control Panel. However, certain conditions change how these actions function:
Standard Actions & Restrictions
- Alarms: If an Alarm token is face up, you may no longer use that Action on the Control Panel until the system is reset. A die placed on a space affected by an Alarm will have no effect. To reset the system, a player must place a die of the correct color and number onto the Alarm token. This removes the Alarm token and the die from the board (the die cannot be used again this round).
- Concentration: An Alarm on the Concentration space means no Coffee tokens can be generated until the system is reset.
- Landing Gear: In specific scenarios (like the Warsaw Chopin scenario), you may be unable to place dice on the Landing Gear spaces.
- Engines: In the Engine Failure scenario, the Engines are inactive and you cannot place dice there.
Special Environmental Rules
- Turbulence: Every time you place a die on an Action, you must reroll all your remaining dice.
- Bad Visibility: Players roll only 2 dice at the beginning of the round. When placing a die, you take one of the two dice set aside, roll it, and replace the die you just played. You should never have more than 2 dice to choose from every turn.
- Turbulence + Bad Visibility: Use only 2 dice. When taking a new die to replace the one played, roll both available dice.
