Game Objective

The game is set in the aftermath of the eruption of Xitle, which destroyed the cities of Cuicuilco and Copilco. Survivors have settled in Teotihuacan, leading to accelerated growth and the adoption of new technologies as the city establishes itself as a regional seat of power. Players compete to develop the city and gain influence. Consulte o manual para detalhes sobre a condição de vitória.

Teotihuacan: Shadow of Xitle is an expansion and requires the base game to play. To set up the expansion content:

  • The 10 Starting tiles are available to experiment with new starting setups.

Actions and How to Play

The expansion introduces new abilities and modifications to existing actions through Technology tiles and Starting tiles:

Technology Tile Abilities

  • Resource Exchange: When moving a worker onto or past the Palace (1) Action Board, you may exchange up to 4 resources of one type (wood, stone, or gold) for the same number of resources of a different type.
  • Cocoa Collection: When taking the Collect Cocoa action, collect 1 more cocoa than normal.
  • Victory Point Bonuses:
    • Gain 4 Victory Points at the end of your turn if you unlocked one or more of your workers.
    • Gain 2 Victory Points when claiming a mask Discovery tile.
  • Eclipse Scoring: During Eclipse scoring, after paying worker salaries, you may pay 1 additional cocoa per worker to gain 2 Victory Points for each worker you have.
  • Pyramid Advancement: After the Main action of the Decorations/Architecture (7) Action Board, if you placed Decoration tiles, advance your marker one additional step on the Pyramid track.
  • Worker Unlocking: If you unlock all locked workers at the end of your turn (via paying cocoa—normally 3 cocoa—or by unlocking them for free instead of taking a normal turn), advance your marker once on a temple of your choice.
  • Decoration Placement: When performing the Main action of the Decorations/Architecture (7) Action Board, Decoration tiles may be placed regardless of the arrow's direction.
  • Building Bonus: After the Main action of the Nobles (6) Action Board, if you placed Buildings, advance your marker once on a temple of your choice.
  • Movement Modification: During a normal turn, before moving an unlocked worker, you may move one unlocked worker exactly 1 space backwards (counter-clockwise), though you cannot activate that specific worker.

Starting Tiles

Players may use Starting tiles to gain immediate benefits at the start of the game, such as:

  • Performing Worship actions (activating the Worship space ability and claiming a Discovery tile without paying 1 cocoa), though the workers used begin the game locked.
  • Advancing on specific temples (such as the orange, red, or blue temple) and gaining resources like cocoa, stone, wood, or gold.
  • Placing starting workers on specific boards, such as the Nobles (6) Action Board or the Decorations/Architecture (7) Action Board.
  • Gaining a 4th worker with a power of 3 and selecting a reward from the Ascension wheel.
  • Claiming the highest numbered Technology tile on the Alchemy (5) Action Board for free, including associated temple advancement.

Tips for Winning

  • Optimize Resource Conversion: Use the Palace (1) Action Board to exchange resources to ensure you have the specific materials needed for your current strategy.
  • Leverage Worker Unlocking: Aim to unlock all your workers at the end of your turn to gain extra advancement on a temple of your choice.
  • Maximize Eclipse Scoring: If you have a surplus of cocoa, use the Eclipse scoring bonus to convert that cocoa into Victory Points based on your worker count.
