About the game
What you do in a play session
The Great Hoodoo is a card game that blends strategy, luck, and a touch of dark humor. You take on the role of a wizard or witch trying to dominate the seven schools of magic—each represented by a color in the deck. Cards have values from one to three, but it’s not just about numbers: the color and magic school determine who beats whom.
The goal is simple: be the last one with cards in hand. Each turn, you can play a card that represents a spell. To block an opponent’s attack, you simply play a card from the same school or a card from an opposing school that is a trump. Each color has specific trumps, and symbols on the cards indicate which ones. If you successfully repel the opponent’s spell, you win the round and may play again. If not, you draw cards until your hand is full, losing your turn.
Hand management mechanics come into play when you decide which cards to keep for future attacks and which to discard to free up space. The game may seem simple at first, but as cards accumulate, deciding when to use a trump becomes crucial.
The game lasts about 20 minutes and works well with 2 to 4 players. The combination of colorful cards and the need to plan each move make Great Hoodoo a fun experience and a great strategy test for those who enjoy card games with a witchcraft vibe. If you love quick challenges and want to test your hand‑management skills, this game is for you.
