The Shattered Lands expansion transports Hero Link beyond the dungeons and introduces a fresh Overworld phase across Hyrule. Unlike the base game, players no longer start with a set amount of items or Triforce shards; instead, they must earn every advantage before venturing into the dungeons. Shops let you spend rupees on gear, while challenges can level up your Skill cards. Story, Quest, and Forage encounters grant a variety of bonuses, creating a rich, strategic exploration experience.
The Cog mechanic carries over to the surface: Hyrule’s terrain shifts each turn, and paths that should connect may not always line up with the player’s desires. Players can use Skill cards to move across the map or rearrange Location tiles, unlocking previously unreachable spots. Treasures gathered can also serve as shortcuts or provide combat advantages.
The expansion requires the base game for rule references and components, and has a moderate language dependency because some cards and tokens need translation. With 2‑4 players, a game lasts 60‑150 minutes, offering a medium complexity that blends deck building, hand management, and point‑to‑point movement on a modular board.
If you love Zelda adventures, cooperative strategy, and enjoy exploring maps that shift each turn, Shattered Lands will delight you with new exploration and combat possibilities.
