Game Objective
The Clan of Two expansion continues The Mandalorian’s journey, allowing players to relive iconic moments from Season 2 and tackle new Mercenary Missions. Depending on the mission chosen, players must overcome specific challenges, such as rescuing civilians or slaying legendary creatures, while managing new mechanics like Duels and Persistent Character Abilities.
Preparation (Setup)
General setup follows the base game rules, with the following additions and modifications from the expansion:
- Components: Add the new Planning Cards, Character Cards, and Normal Event Cards to their respective base game decks.
- Duel Deck: Shuffle the Duel Cards and place them near the Planning Deck.
- Dangerous Event Cards: These red-faced cards are optional. If you want an additional challenge, use them to replace the base game cards with the same names.
- Character Setup: Use the Standard side of the Character Cards unless playing on Novice difficulty.
- Narrative Mode: If playing this mode, remove "Whistling Birds", "Rising Phoenix", and "Beskar Spear" from The Mandalorian’s deck; these are added back after winning specific missions.
Specific Mission Setup Examples:
- Evacuation Mission: Place 5 "G" threat tokens (Civilians) faceup in spaces #3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Place damage on each equal to the token's number. Optionally, assign Hidden Motive cards (1 "Loyal" for The Mandalorian, and 1 for other players) and place the Hidden Motives attack overlay.
- The Great Hunt: Place the Bait token faceup in space #1. Shuffle the Tunnel and Krayt Dragon threat tokens and place them facedown in spaces #2 and 3. Create a 16-card Event Deck using 6 Mercenary Event Cards and 2 random event cards of each type.
Game Flow
The game progresses through a series of missions. While the core loop follows the base game, the expansion introduces specific flow modifications:
- Action Step: Players perform actions using Skill Cards. Certain abilities, such as Arsenal, may allow for more than one attack action per turn.
- Event Step: Enemies move and resolve events. In specific missions, Enemy Movement may change (e.g., enemies moving toward the nearest Civilian instead of the nearest character).
- Narrative Mode Flow: Players play story missions chronologically (1 through 8). Winning a mission allows progression to the next; failing requires a replay. Failing 3 times total results in losing Narrative Mode.
Actions and How to Play
Character Abilities
- Persistent Character Abilities: Unlike the base game, these abilities are always in effect for the entire game and do not flip after use.
- Novice Side: Characters have a Novice side for lower difficulty, though persistent abilities still apply.
Special Actions and Mechanics
- Plan: When performing this action, keep 2 different Planning Cards instead of 1.
- Evacuate: Remove up to 1 damage from a Civilian in your space. If it reaches 0 damage, the Civilian is evacuated (discarded from the map).
- Use Bait: During the Action Step, discard a Bait token from your space to move the Krayt Dragon or a facedown "E" threat token directly to your space and reveal it.
- Duel: When facing an enemy with the Duel ability, you must draw a Duel Card and resolve its ability before dealing damage. Some Duel Cards (like Dodged) may allow you to deal yourself 1 damage to resolve a new Duel Card.
Enemy Abilities
- Fast: The enemy moves 1 additional space during the Event Step.
- Vigilant: The enemy cannot be disrupted, and its abilities cannot be ignored.
- Parting Blow: When defeated, the enemy deals 1 damage to a character in its space.
End of Game and Scoring
Victory and defeat conditions vary by mission:
Evacuation Mission
- Victory: All 5 Civilians have been evacuated at the end of any player's turn.
- Failure: A Loyal character is defeated, or a Civilian is Kidnapped (3 or more enemies in its space). If the mission fails, the Disloyal player also loses unless at least 3 Civilians were evacuated.
The Great Hunt
- Victory: 3 tokens are placed on the Hunt Track at the end of any player's turn (meaning the Krayt Dragon was defeated 3 times).
- Failure: A character is defeated.
Narrative Mode
- Victory: Win Mission 8.
- Failure: Fail a total of 3 times across the campaign.
Tips for Winning
- Manage the Hunt Track: In the The Great Hunt, remember that defeating the Krayt Dragon only places one token on the Hunt Track; you must repeat this process 3 times to win.
- Prioritize Civilians: In evacuation missions, be mindful that enemies will target Civilians instead of characters if the H icon is triggered on an event card.
- Utilize Range: Use abilities like Fennec Shand's Renowned Sniper to increase action range by reducing card strength, allowing you to hit targets from further away.
