Game Objective
In Timeline: Brasil, the objective is to be the only player left with no cards in hand. To achieve this, players must correctly place their cards on a historical timeline, based on events and dates from Brazil.
Setup
- Players sit around the play area.
- The youngest player goes first.
- Shuffle all the cards.
- Each player receives 4 cards, face down (with the dates hidden), and places them in front of them. Players cannot look at the side of the card that shows the date.
- Place the draw pile face down on the table.
- Draw the top card from the draw pile, turn it face up, and place it in the center of the play area. This will be the starting card of the timeline.
- Begin the game!
Gameplay Flow
The game proceeds in turns, moving clockwise. On each turn, the active player attempts to place one of their cards on the timeline.
Actions and How to Play
On their turn, the player must try to place one of their cards in the correct "spot on the timeline".
- Card Placement:
- If the player believes their card's date is earlier than the date of the closest card on the timeline, they must place it to the left.
- If the player believes their card's date is later than the date of the closest card on the timeline, they must place it to the right.
- If the timeline already has more than one card, the player can choose from the available spaces (to the left of the first card, to the right of the last card, or between any two cards already placed).
- Placement Verification: After placing the card, the player turns it over to check if the date was positioned correctly.
- If the card was placed correctly, it remains face up on the timeline.
- If the card was not placed correctly, it is discarded.
- Drawing a New Card: If the card was placed correctly, the player draws the top card from the draw pile and places it, face down, next to the other cards they already possess, without looking at the date side. If the card was not placed correctly, the player also draws a new card.
- Empty Draw Pile: If the draw pile is empty, shuffle the discarded cards to form a new draw pile (with the dates facing down).
- Special Rule for Equal Dates: During the game, if a player needs to place a card with the same date as another card already played, both cards should be placed side-by-side, regardless of order.
End of Game and Scoring
The game ends when a player successfully places their last card on the timeline in a single round.
- Immediate Victory: If a player is the only one to correctly place their card during a single round, they are immediately declared the winner.
- Multiplayer Victory: If multiple players correctly place their last card in a single round, they continue playing while the other players are eliminated. The remaining players draw one card each round and play according to the basic rules until one of them correctly places their card in a single round. The last remaining player to correctly place their card is declared the winner.
Tips for Winning
- Try to position your cards based on your knowledge of historical events.
- If you misplace a card, it is discarded, and you draw a new one. Plan your moves to minimize errors.
