Game Objective

In Tiny Epic Dungeons: Stories, a group of unlikely heroes must unite to explore a dangerous dungeon. The primary goal is to enter the dungeon, complete specific quests (the Stories), defeat the Bosses, and save the world. In the Epic Dungeon mode, the challenge is expanded to conquering 3 distinct dungeon levels, culminating in a confrontation with multiple Big Bosses.

Setup

Setup varies depending on the game mode, but the foundation for the Stories expansion follows these steps:

  • Story Cards: Shuffle the Story Cards and draw one (or two to increase the difficulty). Place them on the table.
  • Objective Markers: Place Objective Marker “A” next to the first card and Objective Marker “B” next to the second, if applicable.
  • Dungeon Deck: Read the instructions on each Story Card. Generally, this requires:
    • Separating specific Dungeon Cards.
    • Cutting Deck B in half and mixing the required card (such as Arcane Ritual, Prison, Portal, Phoenix, Explosives Cache, Fountain, or Divination Well) into the top half.
    • Positioning the Objective Marker as indicated (near the card, on the Entrance Card, or on the Torch Board).

For the Epic Dungeon, setup is done by levels:

  • Level 1: Deck A remains normal; Deck B receives Minion Encounters (1 card for 2 heroes, 2 cards for 3 or 4 heroes) and the Story card; Deck C replaces the Lair Door with the Ladder Card. Do not use the Boss Board or Altar Markers.
  • Level 2: Reset the dungeon, keeping only the Entrance Card. Use a new Story Card. Deck A is removed; Deck B receives Minion Encounters and 1 extra Dungeon Card for each encounter; Deck C contains the Lair Door and the Ladder Card. Position a Boss Board face down.
  • Level 3: Reset the dungeon, keeping the Entrance Card. There are no Story Cards. Deck A is removed; Deck B receives Minion Encounters with 1 fewer Dungeon Card for each encounter; Deck C contains the Lair Door and 1 fewer Dungeon Card. Position two Boss Boards (one with a gray Boss Marker and one with a red one) and the 5 Altar Markers.

Game Flow

The game follows the basic rules of Tiny Epic Dungeons, with the following progression in the Epic Dungeon:

  1. Level 1 Exploration: Heroes explore to complete the Stories and find the Ladder Card.
  2. Transition (Descend and Rejuvenate): After fulfilling the objectives, heroes use the Free Action: Descend and then the Free Action: Rejuvenate.
  3. Level 2 Exploration: The group must complete the Story, kill all Minions, defeat the Boss and their Boss Minion to then find the Ladder Card and descend again.
  4. Level 3 Exploration: The group must kill all Minions to enter the Boss Lair and face the final battle against two Bosses simultaneously.

Actions and How to Play

Special Free Actions

  • Descend: Available when all level objectives have been met and the hero is on the Ladder Card. The hero leaves the dungeon and moves to their Hero Board.
  • Rejuvenate: Performed after Descending. The player counts the spaces between the Torch Marker and the skull at the end of the track, receiving 1 Health and 1 Focus for each space.

Combat and Movement Mechanics

  • Boss Minion: In Level 2, upon revealing the Boss, draw a Minion Card. It must be defeated so that the heroes can Descend. Killing it moves the torch 3 spaces up on the Torch Board.
  • Fighting Two Bosses (Level 3):
    • Upon entering the Lair, the hero chooses which Boss Board (gray or red) to attack.
    • To switch Bosses, the hero must leave the current lair and return to the Lair Door Card.
    • Goblins move to the lair where heroes are present.
    • The Taunt Boss action works for only one Boss at a time.

End Game and Scoring

Victory Condition: In Level 3, the group wins the game by defeating both Bosses.

Defeat Condition: The manual mentions that the Torch cannot go out (if the torch goes out before Descending or winning, the group fails).

Specific Triggers:

  • Story Completion: When a Story is completed, the Objective Marker is positioned in the marked space on the card and the torch moves 3 spaces up.
  • Boss Death (Level 3): When a Boss is killed, the torch moves 9 spaces up (without exceeding the starting space).

Tips for Winning

  • Resource Management: Take advantage of the Free Action: Rejuvenate when descending levels; the further the torch is from the skull, the more Health and Focus you will recover for the next floor.
  • Lair Strategy: In Level 3, remember that to switch between the two Bosses, you must pass through the Lair Door Card; therefore, plan carefully who will attack which target to avoid unnecessary movement.
  • Objective Priority: Do not try to enter the Boss Lair prematurely; in Level 2, it is mandatory to complete the Story Card and eliminate all Minions before entry is permitted.
