About the game
What you do in a play session
Trick Runaway is a card game that pumps adrenaline as you try to escape a hungry dragon. Instead of fighting with swords, you use tricks to keep the right distance and ensure survival. The board is just a simple table, but the action happens with the cards you deal and the decisions of who plays what at the right moment. Each player receives a set of action cards and "escape" cards, and the trick-taking mechanic decides who wins each round. If you win, you move on to the next phase; if you lose, the dragon advances and might swallow you. The ultimate goal is to be the last to escape or to be the first to leave the dragon satisfied with enough. The game lasts 30‑40 minutes, perfect for 4 to 5 players who enjoy a bit of tension and light strategy. The main components are the cards, but there’s also a dragon marker and escape tokens. The learning curve is quick, but there’s room for tactics, like sacrificing low‑value cards to win critical tricks. The fantasy theme adds extra charm, with dragon and cavern illustrations. To set up, simply deal 10 action cards and 5 escape cards to each player. The dragon starts with 3 life points, and you can use escape cards to reduce those points. If the dragon reaches zero, it becomes satisfied and the game ends in a collective victory. Otherwise, whoever has the most life points wins. The game can be played cooperatively, where everyone tries to escape together, or competitively, where each player tries to be the last to escape. There are no expensive components—just a 60‑card deck and a dragon marker. It’s perfect for trips or quick sessions.
