About the game
What you do in a play session
Tricky Time Crisis: the Spawn of Time is the sequel that brings the daughter of the infamous Dr. Tricky Time on a quest for vengeance against the superhero world. The game returns to the classic trick‑taking mechanic, but with a twist: each card represents a different hero or villain, and the right card wins the round. Players are split into hero and villain teams based on the card they play, creating shifting alliances that change every trick. The goal isn’t just to win tricks; the real victory comes from the missions that the villain Dr. Tricky Task hands out. These missions may require heroes to hit a specific point total, or to play the same number of cards, forcing players to think strategically about when to play each card.
Scoring at the end of each hand depends on how many cards of each suit a player has in their score pile. If a player has only one card of a suit, they receive points equal to the printed value; if they have two or more cards of the same suit, they earn 2 points per card. This creates constant tension between accumulating cards of a suit and preventing opponents from doing the same. Unlike the first game, heroes can’t simply use high‑value cards to win; they must meet the missions imposed, adding an extra layer of strategy.
The game is fast‑paced, with sessions lasting between 45 and 75 minutes, and works well with 2 to 5 players. The components are simple—a themed deck of cards and score markers—but the variety of missions and the need to adapt to the cards played keep the game fresh and unpredictable. If you enjoy card games with comic‑book themes and want a challenge that blends strategy, luck, and a bit of heroism, Tricky Time Crisis: the Spawn of Time is a pick worth trying out.
