About the game
Ulcers is a board game that lampoons the chaos of corporate hiring. Each player runs a company and must assemble a full staff: two secretaries, two salesmen, a sales manager, a vice‑president and finally a president. The board is double‑sided and bilingual, allowing pieces to move point‑to‑point or by dice roll, injecting plenty of luck into movement. As you circle the board, chances to hire or raid employees from rival firms arise, sparking interaction and plenty of laughs. The core dilemma is salary negotiation: pay too little and the worker jumps ship, pay too much and you risk bankruptcy. Money management is vital, but it isn’t the win condition – the goal is to reach the “Go” square, marking a new fiscal year, with a complete staff in tow. Early editions featured all‑female secretaries and all‑male executives; later versions kept the art but shuffled the roles. The game blends Point‑to‑Point Movement, Roll/Spin‑and‑Move and Set Collection mechanics, all wrapped in a light‑hearted humor reminiscent of a Sunday afternoon movie. It’s perfect for families or friends who enjoy quick (about 90‑minute) games with low complexity (weight 1.06/5) and lots of chuckles, though the heavy reliance on luck may turn off players who crave deeper strategy.
