Village Attacks: The Horrors of the Sands (VATS) takes the beloved cooperative board game Village Attacks to a new level of terror and adventure. In VATS, players take on the role of village heroes, each with unique powers, and must use area‑movement tactics, dice rolls, and a modular board to repel hordes of monsters emerging from the sands. The new enemies include the Mummy, Djinn, Efreet, and Ghoul, as well as the newly introduced Yunfakh, a swift creature that can only be defeated in close‑quarters combat. To balance the threat, players have the option to summon allies and creatures using the new Summoning mechanic, adding tactical depth to the game. The expansion introduces new tiles that expand the board’s landscape, allowing the village to grow and adapt each session. The modular board remains one of the game’s biggest draws, as each playthrough generates a unique configuration of combat zones, refuge points, and attack locations. Heroes, meanwhile, gain additional abilities that synergize with each player’s variable powers, creating surprising combos when everyone works together. Components are sturdy and well‑made: detailed miniatures of monsters and heroes, six‑sided dice with thematic artwork, health markers, action tokens, and a set of terrain tiles. The game can be played with 1 to 5 players, and playtime ranges from 30 to 180 minutes, depending on the number of participants and chosen difficulty. VATS is perfect for groups that enjoy cooperative challenges, medieval fantasy narratives, and combat mechanics that require planning and coordination.
