Villages: Ghost Town puts you in command of a small village that must survive a night of monsters. After a day of building and conquering, darkness falls and creatures of the dark appear. Each turn you receive unit, animal, and building cards and may play up to three, but you must manage your hand: if it overflows you lose cards. Hand management forces quick decisions on what to use and what to discard. Additionally, there is set collection: gathering three cards of the same type (e.g., three zombies or three towers) earns you points. Variable player powers give each participant a unique bonus – the fisherman can draw two extra cards, the blacksmith can buy cards at a discount, etc. – making each game distinct. Combat occurs when “Darkness” cards appear; if defense is weak the village loses points and may lose units. The goal is to accumulate more points than other players before time runs out. The deck contains 39 unit, animal, and building cards, plus one distant land card that can turn the game, and light cards that can be played any time to block attacks. Each player gets a small village board to place units and points. With simple rules, the game takes about 30 minutes and works for 2 to 5 players. Although a card game, it’s full of tension and quick decisions, great for fans of light strategy with a horror twist. If you enjoy fast battles, card collecting, and a dash of unpredictability, Villages: Ghost Town will surprise you.
