Game Objective

In Vinhos Deluxe Edition: Islands Expansion Pack, players compete as wine producers in the exotic regions of Madeira and Açores. The goal is to build prestigious estates, produce high-quality wines, and satisfy the preferences of Carolina, the influential wine critic. The player with the most victory points at the end of the game wins.

Preparation (Setup)

This expansion works with both the 2010 Reserve and Special Vintage 2016 editions. Follow these steps:

• Assign one of the excluded region numbers to represent Madeira and Açores for Carolina’s preferences.
• Place a wine tile with the assigned number on each island’s board as a reminder.
• For Madeira: No additional setup is required beyond the standard game.
• For Açores: When purchasing a vineyard here, players receive a 3-space Warehouse and a Barrel in their color. Place the Warehouse over their Estate’s existing Warehouse and position the Barrel above the third space.

All other setup rules remain unchanged from the base game.

Game Flow

The expansion integrates seamlessly into the base game’s structure. Key phases include:

• Vineyard Purchase: Players can buy vineyards in Madeira or Açores, triggering unique effects.
• Production Phase: Special rules for Madeira (Tourist movement and Bago income) and Açores (wine type selection and barrel export) apply here.

All other phases follow the base game rules.

Actions and How to Play

Madeira Island

• Buying a vineyard costs 6 Bagos. Move a Tourist to any Cellar in your Estates. If no Cellar exists, place the Tourist in your Madeira Estate warehouse.
• During the Production Phase, Tourists can move between Cellars. A Tourist in a Cellar increases the Wine Value by 1 for wines taken from that Cellar.
• Also in the Production Phase, gain 1 Bago from Madeira Estates (regardless of Tourists).

Açores Archipelago

• Buying a vineyard costs 4 Bagos. You receive a 3-space Warehouse and a Barrel (placed above the third space).
• During each Production Phase, choose whether to produce white or red wine.
• If wine ages to the space with the Barrel, export it immediately to a matching Wine Value space using this 9th Barrel. This is a one-time free export.
• You cannot build a Cellar in Açores.
