Visby is a fast‑paced duel packed with tension, perfect for fans of simultaneous decisions and a dash of bluffing. Each player receives an identical deck of eight cards, each bearing a unique effect that can yield seals (victory points) or commodities. At the start of every round the common supply on the board is bolstered with extra seals, more commodities, and a more favorable conversion rate, raising the stakes. Players secretly pick a card, place it face‑down, and reveal them all at once. The effects then fire: Knights and Troops grant points; Blacksmith gains commodities for each Knight/Troop other players played; Ships and Fleets take commodities; Tollkeeper converts those commodities into seals; Merchant trades commodities for seals; and the Monk collects commodities from merchants and from cards already played, also retrieving all cards back to his hand. The trick lies in ordering: the strongest cards only shine after the weaker ones, so you must guess what your opponent will play. If an opponent uses a Fleet (three commodities) and you have a Ship, you only get what remains. Strategy therefore blends memory (which cards have already been used) with intuition about the rival’s choice. A round lasts 20‑30 minutes, the game scores a light 1.2 on BGG, and it is designed strictly for two players, though expansions can stretch it to six. The art carries a simple medieval vibe, and components consist of sturdy cards and a modest supply board. Visby delivers micro‑resource management and opponent reading in a compact package, ideal for quick sessions between friends.
