Prepare your sails and steady the helm, because your civilization is heading for ocean domination! The Armada expansion for 7 Wonders shifts the focus from city walls to the open seas. Now, you're not just building monuments; you're assembling fleets to discover distant islands and trade with remote cities. The biggest addition is the Shipyard boards, where you manage your fleet's position, navigating the map to conquer territories and engage in naval conflicts.
The game gains extra depth with the introduction of Armada cards and Isle cards. You'll encounter pirates, navigators, and shipowners who bring new interactions and strategies to the table. For those who love long-term planning, fleet management adds a tactical layer: you must balance territorial expansion with preparation for the impending naval war.
One of the coolest additions is the team variant, allowing you to play in teams (with 4 or 6 players), turning the individual struggle into a strategic alliance. Despite adding new components and rules, the victory conditions remain the same as the base game, so you're still fighting for that final point total. The expansion is independent of other expansions but is fully compatible with them, allowing you to customize your gaming experience.
With colorful ship miniatures and new naval victory and defeat tokens, the immersion is significantly increased. You'll have to decide whether to invest in exploration for island bonuses or focus on military might to crush your neighbor's fleet. It's the perfect addition for anyone who felt that the Mediterranean waters were a bit too quiet!
