About the game

What you do in a play session

If you thought Odin's feast was already grand, get ready, because 'The Norwegians' arrives to make everything even more epic. This isn't just a small add-on; it deeply alters the game's dynamics, introducing new strategies and increasing the complexity of the puzzle that is building your board.

The star of the show is the new action board. Now, depending on the player count, actions shift, opening up new paths and, of course, increasing the competition for spaces. You'll find new activities like elk hunting, fishing, and even thievery. Additionally, a fifth column of powerful actions has appeared, requiring only one viking, but with a catch: once you use it, your turn ends for the round. It's that 'all or nothing' kind of choice that adds great tension.

Regarding the puzzle, the expansion introduces new and challenging tiles, including horses and pigs (which breed faster, boosting animal-focused strategies). There are also new grey special tiles, such as anvils and hauberks, providing necessary upgrades to your progress. Exploration gets a boost with new island boards and Irish coastal settlements, expanding the horizons for your explorers.

To top it off, we have the 'artisan sheds', which act as random starting buildings, giving each player a unique starting opportunity, similar to occupation cards. And if you're stuck with occupation cards you can't play, you can now discard them for victory point tokens. More variety, more depth, and obviously, more pieces to organize on your table. Essentially, it's the definitive expansion for anyone wanting to squeeze every bit of juice out of Uwe Rosenberg's system.
