About the game

What you do in a play session

If you have already explored every corner of Akropolis and thought competition was the only path, get ready for a twist worthy of Olympus! In 'Akropolis: Pantheon', the old rivalries between cities are set aside for a noble goal: building a grand Capital together to honor the gods. Forget individual point-chasing; now, the success of your city depends on the group's total collaboration.

The biggest change here is the shift to a cooperative mode. Instead of focusing solely on your personal board, the heart of the game takes place in the center of the table, where you must build the collective Capital. The game offers three distinct scenarios—Corinth, Sparta, and Athens—that scale in difficulty, requiring sharp communication and well-aligned strategic planning among all participants.

Forget the river system from the base game; the dynamic is different here. You receive Stone cubes and City tiles in hand, and on your turn, you must decide whether to use that tile to complete an Architectural Challenge—essential for placing Divine Altars in the Capital—or contribute directly to the central construction. The key twist is that at the end of the game, only the squares in the Capital featuring an Altar dedicated to gods like Zeus, Ares, or Demeter will score points. If you build something on your personal city board, I'm sorry, but that won't help you reach the scenario's target score.

It is an optimization challenge where resource management and coordination are vital. If one player spends too many stones or places a tile in the wrong spot, the whole group feels the impact. Victory requires you to anticipate challenges, ensure the right Altars are in the right places, and that the Capital is built with total efficiency before the tiles run out. It is an experience that turns the base game into a tense and highly rewarding collective puzzle, perfect for those who want to test their synergy with friends. Remember: without the base game, this expansion won't work, so make sure your original copy is at hand to start construction!
