About the game
Get ready for a lightning-fast trip back to the Middle Ages! Aljubarrota: The Royal Battle is a snappy card game that transports you to the year 1385, recreating the iconic clash between Portugal and Spain. If you enjoy quick card games that don't require hours of rulebook reading but still keep your brain engaged, this is the one for you. The goal is straightforward yet requires sharp focus: be the first player to shed all your cards.

The deck consists of 42 cards divided into seven thematic 'suits' reflecting the battlefield: crowns, shields, banners, archers, people, cavalry, and infantry. Each suit features distinct colors and values. The game kicks off with each player taking a king card and half the shuffled deck. Gameplay revolves around watching the cards already on the table and deciding where to place your next move. You can play a card if it matches the suit, color, or value of an existing pile. What if your card doesn't fit anywhere? That's where the strategy kicks in—you must decide whether to return it to the bottom of your pile or place it alongside your king in any pile. It’s a game of constant observation and rapid-fire decisions, perfect for a quick break or a fast-paced head-to-head duel. It's light, historical, and gets straight to the action!
