About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready to expand your Ascension universe with 'Rise of Vigil'! In this chapter of the deck-building saga, you'll dive into a fantasy world where the goal is to accumulate victory points (VPs) in various ways. The core mechanic is the classic acquisition of cards from a common area, which go to your discard pile and eventually shuffle into your main deck. But 'Rise of Vigil' brings a special twist: hostile creatures and treasures! You can confront monsters to earn VPs and other bonuses, like getting rid of unwanted cards or preventing rivals from grabbing something valuable. Treasures, specifically 'Energy Shards', are a novelty here. When revealed in the common area, they wait to be acquired along with heroes or constructs. When you play a treasure from your hand, you immediately draw another card and, most importantly, use the energy it generates to activate special abilities on other cards. This energy can be used multiple times in the same turn to power up your actions. The game ends when all VPs are claimed or the main deck runs out. And the best part? 'Rise of Vigil' works both as a standalone game for 2 to 4 players and as an expansion to supercharge any other game in the Ascension series, allowing up to 6 players to join the fray!
